Staff weapon from Stargate

I was reading an article the other day regarding the staff weapons that are featured in Stargate SG1, the basic idea of the piece was that the staff weapon would be a very ineffective weapon for day to day use and that one would have to be trained from a very young age to be a skilled warrior with one.

There were all good points made in the article and I can see …

I have the best possible problem in the world at the moment, I’m backed up with sketch card commission sets and have three themed sets to keep me busy over the next week or so.

The first set that I’m working on is the original Stargate SG1 team.  I’ve done the five card set so it can be joined together in one long illustration.  At this stage there are very few details on the Stargate or Teal’c's staff weapon.

The insignias are all going to be done post inking.

So following on from this set I’ll be working on a set of three sketch cards featuring the robots from the classic science fiction film Silent Running.  After that I’ll be keeping firmly in the science fiction realm (anyone want some Die Hard sketch cards to break it up?) with a giant set of 12 cards featuring the 11 Doctor Who’s and a TARDIS card.

I’ve included the SG1 individually after the break.   You can order your own cards in the QYDJ shop.

I read somewhere and I now forget where that a man should hate something in order to stay strong (or it might have been young, frankly I’ll take either at this stage of my life).  Which is fortunate for me because I currently hate something and I’ve only seen it in the last fifteen minutes.

Now I guess it should be noted that I am a big fan of the retro Iron Man armour and I love the classic red and gold that was a standard during the 80s and 90s. I just feel that the Iron Man armour should actually be armour, a high tech metal shell that is worn by Tony Stark. I don’t want living liquid metal or metal skin, I would like armour.

Following the sold-out “Stark Disassembled” storyline, the Marvel Universe still needs its armored champion and a new mission requires a new kind of armor! But when you see just what Iron Man has planned for the Marvel Universe, your jaw will be on the floor! There’s never been a super hero like the new Iron Man!

“The inspiration for the new design came from thinking about a sleeker, leaner, tougher Iron Man,” revealed Fraction. “If technology is increasingly getting smaller and lighter it seems like the Iron Man should do the same: ergonomic and aerodynamic. We were looking for something that felt as sleek and glossy as a sports car Tony Stark would covet. I love what we’ve come up with. It feels like the next evolutionary step in the Iron Man’s design.”

Now I find all sorts of stupid in these statements although I will admit that my jaw was on the ground as I realised that instead of making Iron Man really cool they may have well given him a spandex suit with lights.

I was saying to a friend the other day that whilst I love the Iron Man movie armour I was a little worried that in the comic books they were beginning to get away from the standard design and making the suit so advanced that eventually they will have nowhere to go.  I feel that I was right in some degree because they have completely changed what Iron Man is in the last ten years.  That isn’t a suit of armour, that is a thin costume and I can’t even suspend my disbelief to even think that a mortal man is inside that thing.

Why not just give Stark super powers and be done with it?

At least I can save the money on buying Iron Man comics, I stopped a while back because of the woeful art and the ridiculous story lines that took the character away from who he was.  I was going to start up again after Siege but I don’t really see the point.

You can read the complete release from Marvel on their site, I’m not sure who you contact to blame for the severe case of the underwhelms.
