I’ve been waiting on Iron Man 2 ever since the credits rolled on Iron Man 1.

It’s an event film for me.  I’ve been with this character for twenty something years now and when the first film came out it showed the world what I and my fellow shellheads already knew.  Iron Man is awesome.

So after watching the first film and thinking about the sequel I became aware of what appeared to be the rule of Marvel in …

Iron Man 2 Soundtrack

I’ve spoken about the Iron Man 2 soundtrack before when it was first announced and sort of when I discovered how little they wished to make the Iron Man 2 AC/DC amalgamation viral.

So after being less than impressed over the idea that I couldn’t embed Iron Man 2 soundtrack related material and realising that I would not be able to buy the soundtrack via iTunes due to AC/DC’s distaste of selling their music digitally through fear that one may lose the overall effect of their entire album rather than listening to a single (god knows what they make of CD shuffles) I kinda went cold on the whole idea.

But then we were in the music shop over the weekend and I noticed the Iron Man 2 – Collector’s Edition soundtrack which has a reprint of a comic and some sort of hard cover book about AC/DC.  I was excited for about six seconds before I realised that apart from the comic book there was very little Iron Man 2 material and lots of AC/DC material.

Here in Australia the collector’s edition is quite expensive too, over $50 so I put it back down and sort out the standard edition.  I found the deluxe edition which also has a DVD featuring AC/DC videos and the standard which does not come in a standard CD case much to my disagreement.

I opted for the standard because I’m obviously interested in Iron Man 2 and not so much AC/DC.

Don’t get me wrong I’m a fan of AC/DC and by getting this CD I have picked up a bunch of songs that I wanted but I am still irritated that the CD feels more aimed at AC/DC fans than Iron Man 2 fans.  Also it really bugs me that I had to buy a stupid CD.  I don’t want CDs anymore and the first thing I did was rip it to my iTunes library and now the CD will gather dust somewhere in storage.

The irony of linking to affiliate links where you can buy the CD is also not lost on me but then I know a lot of people who still want the media and they should buy through my links as they help support the site!

So do you guys think is it a good thing that a movie has so closely aligned itself with a band? It worked for Tim Burton’s Batman and Prince and on numerous occasions for Queen.

Oh and mentioned Queen soundtracks, this week is the week I finally watch Highlander for the very first time for the Midnight Movie Club!

If you haven’t seen the second trailer for Iron Man 2 take a quick look at it above and then come right back down here so we can all chat Iron Man 2 or as I now like to call it “the one film I HAVE to see this year”.

I didn’t really have any doubts or concerns about the Iron Man sequel, “essentially” the same cast and creative team that did such a great job on the first one and with Marvel’s now watchful eye looking on I guessed that they’d do fine and we’d have a pretty good sequel which like Spider-Man 2 would surpass the first.

In fairness too, I was basing this on very little other than my own gut feeling.  But with every still released by the studio showing the cast as they came together my confidence bolstered up a little more.  Then the teaser trailer was released and I suddenly felt a whole lot more comfortable that IM2 is going to be awesome.

Then they released that video above.

I am so excited about this film and I have complete and utter faith that it is going to be great based purely off that trailer.  I can see where they are going with it and some of the characters now make a little more sense in how they fit into the overall film.  Especially Whiplash (Mickey Rourke) whom I kept waiting to see a finished/complete costume of but now realise that it’s more than possible that we won’t.

The best thing about that trailer and therefore ultimately the movie is that they have already managed to convince me of the suitcase armour.  For those who don’t read the comic book series the suitcase armour was a solution to the problem of having Tony Stark out and about, get caught up in something and still be able to save the day.

It was a stretch of the imagination, the suit folded up neatly like fabric into a briefcase and then when removed it would straighten out into the proper armour.  Huge suspension of disbelief required, personally I just pretended not to notice.

But now thanks to that trailer I totally buy into the slimmed down portable armour wrapped up as a suitcase.  I mean I know it’s not possible but I’m willing to give it a free pass because it looks cool and at least goes halfway towards plausibility.

And no mention of Iron Man 2 is complete without saying how absolutely badass the War Machine armour looks.

So everyone, what do we think of the trailer?  Does this make you mad excited for the Iron Man sequel or does Scarlett Johansson (The Black Widow) make you cringe too much?*

Any concerns?

*I personally think she looks great in this and perfectly fits the character but I know she’s not everyone’s cup of tea…
