Spicebird another alternative mail client plus
January 21st, 2008
A while ago I threw off the Outlook shackles for something a little bit different, Thunderbird which:
- has a cool name
- is open source
- does everything I suppose I wanted
- is free
- is alternative.
There were a couple of things to get used to, some plugins to install and a very short learning curve, although to be honest I never really applied myself to it (it probably does a tonne of other cool stuff but I wouldn’t know), which was the same case with Outlook.
Well over at the Aussie Bloggers Forum I was exposed to a new program that is still in beta but builds on the Thunderbird platform. Which is cool because its mail compnent is pretty close to Thunderbird and thus no learning needed.
What makes this interesting though is that it has like a dashboard where you can have your calendar and a bunch of RSS feeds and your to do list similar (without the RSS) to Outlook which makes it useful for organizing yourself (yeah that’s going to happen).
So I’ve installed it on the laptop to get an idea of whether it’s worthwhile switching over or not, I might even consider going back to Outlook one of these days.
If anyone else is using it let me know what you think of it!
