Sex and the City movie initial thoughts

June 5th, 2008

Excellent.

Sex and the City posterAn excellent example of treating the fanbase of a franchise with respect and consideration.

If you don’t like Sex and the City you’re not going to like this film, if you liked Sex and the City then you’ll love the movie because they did it right.

Everyone was here and putting in a great performance, the soundtrack very cleverly uses the familiar theme from the series and the stuff actually happens.   It is long though, not that I’m complaining but it covers a lot of ground.

I think you’re a little too cynical if you don’t enjoy the film, but that’s just my opinion.

It’s just really good that the film is well done.   So far I’m two for three with Iron Man and Sex and the City falling into the more than good pile and of course Indy falling into the disappointment pile (for me that is).   Hulk is next week and we’ve got Batman, Hellboy, Get Smart and X-Files (oh boy am I excited over X-Files now).

Sex and the City - money in the bank?

May 26th, 2008

I’m wondering what return the studios are expecting from the upcoming Sex and the City film.   I think that it is going to be excellent and I’m actually really looking forward to it.   I got hooked on the show after Tracey introduced me to it.

I think that it is very cool that the girls decided to go the movie route instead of the telemovie path but I’m interested what type of returns the studio is hoping for.   How much of a box office share will the film take off Indy?

Completely different demographic I expect, very few gophers probably.

See I can’t imagine non fans going and seeing the film at the cinema, maybe they’ll be interested enough to give it a look, but again I can’t imagine the storyline will be as rewarding as it would had you seen the series?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m hoping and expecting it to be a success, I’m just wondering is all.

Ice princess - it’s princess diaries all over again

March 3rd, 2008

From Scholastic… To Fantastic!

Ice Princess posterSo the other night I was glued to the stuck in front of the television watching Disney’s Ice Princess starring Dawn from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Cheerleader from Heroes and Samantha from Sex and the City.

Awesome cast right?   Good grief, if it had Anne Hathaway I’d be curled up in the corner white as a ghost shaking from overdose.   I missed the start of the film which is OK with me but I get the idea, Dawn is a maths genius who for some reason wants to skate?   When I was a maths genius all I wanted to do was skate so I assume it’s the same for everyone else too.

Sam is a coach and the Cheerleader is her daughter.   I dunno there was some overcoming of hurdles, a couple of set backs and a few clichés (noooo I hear you gasp) then all colours of inspirational joy.

Mmmmm maybe it will replace the Princess Diaries in my heart (I doubt it but maybe).

The wonderful thing about this film though is its wikipedia entry.   There is more space dedicated to errors and inaccuracies than to the actual film.
