I’m sure it’s somewhere on the internet

October 15th, 2008

I’ve seen some weird stuff on the internet, stuff that I couldn’t have thought of and some stuff I wish I could un-see (I’m looking at you 2G1C).  But every once and a while I see something that reminds of this fact, something that is just so off the wall that I find myself grinning at the pure wonder that is the internet.

Exhibit A:

Robocop on a Unicorn

Well sure, Robocop on a unicorn (I went to make the u a capital… weird) of course someone has drawn this and put it on the interwebs, of course you can find a picture of Robocop on a unicorn!

Exhibit B

A whole bunch of pictures of Robocop on a unicorn!?!?!!?

I found this originally over at Super Punch

Two photos that make me smile and one that makes me weep

June 12th, 2008

Apparently the Licensing International Expo 2008 has been on and one of the attendees has posted photos from the event (I’d never heard of it before today to be honest).   The first two photos make me grin like a ten year old that just saw one of the greatest films ever:

The Ecto 1 at the Licensing International Expo

The car still looks awesome, it just does, I’m so going to build one of these one day.

Stay Puft happiness at the Licensing International Expo

Mr Stay Puff is happy, I’m happy, everyone should be happy knowing that Ghostbuster stuff is coming, even if it is just an awesome video game.

And now onto something much more unpleasent, horrible, I wish it was April 1st so I could pretend it isn’t happening.

Robocop coming in 2010

There is no reason to remake Robocop!!!   Please just do a movie with Robocop in it and not a re imagining!!!!!

The original photos can be found at Ray’s gallery.

And I first saw the Robocop 2010 poster over at Samuraifrog’s blog.

Do we really need a Robocop remake?

May 14th, 2008

RobocopThere was some talk a little while ago about Sony potentially remaking Robocop.   There were then further rumours that they decided it was a remarkably bad idea since the film wasn’t really that old.

Now I love Robocop one and two and tolerate three so the the initial idea of more Robocop is appealing until I think about the word remake.   To make again.

Do we really need to overwrite the original?   Is it really necessary to take the original films and stories and replacing them?   Is Robocop not iconic enough a character now that we can’t just feature him in a movie that doesn’t absolutely have to follow on from the third film but features the archetype in a story that is worth telling?

I for one do not require another Robocop origin story, I know how and why he was created already.   Surely enough people know this too that all that is needed is a very simple recap? Oh yeah he was a butchered cop built into a cyborg body designed to be the ultimate law enforcement resource.   Cool.   On with the awesome story that has our hero face adversity, overcome peril and return society to the its status quo.

Don’t reimagine him!   Just be creative with the story, the character is already there ready to go.   Invest the time in writing a powerful, icon worthy story rather than giving us a Robocop for the next generation.
