What I’m reading: PJANG
August 14th, 2008
When you pick up an indie comic book you often feel the need to cut it a lot more slack than you would a Marvel or DC book. Â The thing is of late the Marvel and DC books have not been impressing me in any way shape or form and so fo me it was a joy to sit and read an alternative offering that obviously a lot of love went into. Â This is something lacking in your mainstream comics today, it’s like they’ve lost the love.
It is odd then to be attributing the term love to the first issue of the book PJANG which stands for People Just Ain’t No Good (a Nick Cave line) and is the brainchild of QYDJ regular commenter Rol.
The first thing I noticed when I got the book in the mail is the printing quality of the company that Rol has gotten the book printed through, no photocopied or inkjet printing here, this is quality comic book material. Â I know this is superficial but it doesn’t hurt a book at the same time!
There are three stories contained in this issue, all written by Rol with different artists and all featuring the lessor qualities of humanity. Â I was going to go through them but I think you should really go buy a copy as it’s not expensive and it is a pleasure to read.
You can see some of the artwork at http://rolhirst.co.uk/ and also directly order the book.
