To cut the field down from the calibre of artists that have drawn the Batman over the years is just something I’m not up to. Â I don’t know if anyone could, certainly not pleasing everyone (if anyone!).
These are five artists that I just love, I love their interpretations of the Batman and some of them are indeed the best Batman artists ever, but I ain’t saying anything!
Tim Sale - his work has caught the attention of the world thanks to Heroes but before that Sale was and still is doing amazing work on Batman (as well as extraordinary stuff with some of the Marvel characters).
Norm Breyfogle - I grew up on Breyfogle’s work on Batman, he has the most brilliant control over kinetic energy in his depictions of Batman, especially in the cape.
Frank Miller - Apart from being a great writer I love his artwork too, it has this great raw power to it, his Batman is a warrior.
Mike Mignola - One of my favourite Batman series is the Black and White series and part of that series was Mignola’s Batman (he’s done covers before).
Jim Lee - I’m really loving his work on the All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder.
I’m not really sure what drew me to the character of Hellboy, probably the brilliant artwork by Mike Mignola, actually I’m sure it is. Â What I expect kept me coming back was the surprisingly droll humour, the real world mythology mixing within the rich tapestry of the BPRD world and of course I still can’t go past that artwork!
Now that Iron Man has come and gone, it met my expectations (and hopes) and renewed my faith in the potential of the comic book movie I’ve got some more movies to look forward to.
High amongst these films is of course Hellboy II The Golden Army.
I know some people were unmoved by the first Hellboy, but I liked it and I’m more than ready to revisit that world. Â I still marvel at the perfect casting of the first one, could you get a better Hellboy than Vincent himself? Â (some people will get that reference and I know how old you guys are!!)
Tracey got me a replica ‘Samaritan‘ gun ages and ages ago, actually it was just before we were forced to move out of our old place. Â So I haven’t had the time to actually enjoy it and so it’ll be twice as cool when we finally buy a place and move out.
It’s going to be like Christmas as we open up all our old stuff that we haven’t seen for a year! Â But for the mean time one of things that I’ll be adding to the storage manifest now that we just got it off lay-by is my very own Right Hand of Doom.
I had to at least check it in the box to make sure it was actually OK (it had been on display), Â of course I didn’t realise that you can actually wear the thing!!!
(in the wider shot of that photo you can also see an Iron Man figurine laying down in the background - portrait of a comic book geek much?)
