Movie for each year of my life
July 16th, 2008
Over at Electronic Cerebrectomy Samurai Frog wrote out a list of his favourite movie from each year of his life. Â It’s an interesting mix of movies and he suggested that we should all give it a go so I’m doing exactly that. Â The only difference is I’m going to say that the way I’m choosing the films is the one that I would prefer to watch right now out of each year.
Star Wars - what can I say it is iconic.
Superman: The Movie - the start of the big comic book films love the tagline for it, you’ll believe a man can fly.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture - arg such a horrible toss up between Alien, The Black Hole and Star Trek, I gotta go with Trek but it’s a hard choice.
The Empire Strikes Back - the best of all the Star Wars films - The Blues Brothers is a very close second.
Raiders of the Lost Ark - before there were gophers, before there were fridges there was the Ark.
Blade Runner - yeah I could watch that right now, First Blood and Star Trek 2 nearly won out.
Porky’s 2: The Next Day - yes this beats Jedi out right at this moment, there is a scene where one of the guys is dressed like a zombie but he is really drunk, brings tears to my eyes everytime.
Ghostbusters - it’s obvious really, Star Trek 3, Gremlins and Terminator all brilliant but nothing beats the superstars of the supernatural.
My Science Project - I love this film and I haven’t seen it in such a long time, just lots of fun.
Big Trouble in Little China - Kurt Russell’s equivalent to Ghostbusters, it’s just awesome fun.
Adventures in Babysitting - this a late night favourite.
Die Hard - revolutionised the action genre and is 48 floors of fun (or however many floors there are Ho, Ho, Ho).
Batman - the Tim Burton vision, I still love it to this day, I try not to compare it to Batman Begins, they are completely different takes on the character and I like both equally.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - this is really hard to buy on DVD here in Australia, you can get the inferior sequels but the original live action film is scarce.
Terminator 2 - the high point of the Terminator franchise, I don’t know if this will ever be equalled.
Batman Returns - still my favourite of the series, I love the scene where he rips off the cowl, amazing soundtrack, yeah I could watch this.
Jurassic Park - I love dinosaurs and I consider this one of Spielberg’s last great films. Â Man that T-Rex is awesome.
Ed Wood - I love the story of Wood, considered the worst director of all time. Â He has such great enthusiasm and love of film even though he’s horrible at it.
Hackers - so inaccurate it makes Tron look like a documentary, but I just love having this film on in the background, especially when working late at night.
Twister - whenever this is on TV it holds my attention every time and for some reason I don’t actually own it on DVD (a fair amount of this list is in my collection).
Starship Troopers - another film that I love popping on in the background whilst I do something, the effects look great and I’m about to watch Troopers 3 so I’m in the mood for it.
The Big Lebowski - I adore the Dude, Armageddon may have kick ass space shuttles but the Dude abides.
EDtv - I was just talking about this the other day, commenting how good it was so following my instructions this is a film I wouldn’t mind watching now if given the choice.
Gone in 60 Seconds - This film is just plain fun and I haven’t watched in a while.
Zoolander - this was another hard year to pick from. Â No, Princess Diaries did not make it, it’s on again this weekend.
Reign of Fire - I really enjoy this dragon tale, I don’t think it got enough attention when it came out.
The Return of the King - it was a great ending to the trilogy, long, which is why I don’t tend to watch it very often.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story - if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
Serenity - I love this film, one of my favourites of all time. Â The Serenity crashing… oh my.
Rocky Balboa - Â this film does what Rocky does best and that’s the underdog comeback.
Live Free or Die Hard - only because I have the ‘adult’ version that I’ve yet to watch the whole way through, I watched the theatrical version thinking it was a good idea for a Die Hard film.
Iron Man - I could watch this over and over.
Phew.
Wow, that was a lot harder and time consuming than I thought it would be. Â I’d be impressed that any of you made it to the bottom of this list.
So feel free to do what I did and steal the idea and twist it to your own requirements.
