I don’t recall when Firefox was first announced, I imagine it probably wasn’t a big event and was a gradual thing as it developed into the browser we know (or knew, since we’re now on 3) from its origins. Â Not being a Mac guy Safari only came onto my radar a couple of years ago, well after it’s launch. Â So I was really interested when I heard about a new ‘big’ browser, by big I mean mainstream, by mainstream I mean that it wasn’t just put together in someone’s garage.Â
Google Chrome
I only found out yesterday that Google were even working on their own browser, from what I’ve read I’m not the only one. Â So with 24 hours up my sleeve I decided straight away that since so far I’ve been pretty happy with Google products so far I would install it, besides if you’re going to web design you need to be across all the browsers and with Google behind Chrome I can’t imagine it failing too much.
So this morning I am typing this from an extrememly streamlined and fast Google Chrome window which has already imported all my settings from Firefox (there is a lot of Firefox in here I’m fairly certain).Â
Since I haven’t been using it for more than fifteen minutes the system hasn’t identified my must frequented sites that will show up on my start page, but I look forward to that 
 Also there are no plugins for it yet, I don’t think…?  I’ll have to go look.
One of the other things that got my attention straight away is the way that Google explains Chrome: via comic book!Â

I don’t generally hate on iTunes like some people do, it’s the software that comes with my various iPods and now my iPhone and I’m generally happy with that except there is no Linux version which does bug me slightly. Â I do the right thing, I don’t hack my iPhone or for that matter my previous iPods and I don’t go out looking for an open source alternative.
What does really piss me off though is that I have this wonderful technology which integrates with the web and gives me access to music, film and television shows. Â Well that’s the story, the reality is that iTunes Australia is weak, lame even.
You have a choice of like five or six actual television shows, not counting children’s cartoons etc. Â I was so excited that Star Trek remastered was being made available via iTunes! Â Score! Â Since no channel in Australia is carrying it (I don’t think, Ten HD has a scifi night so maybe they are which means shit all to me because I have an older TV) I’ll just buy it and download it to my iPhone.
Wrong.
That’s not available in that backwards lame version of iTunes.
No Dr Horrible either.

Ok forget TV then, that’s fine I’ll just resign myself to not watching it unless I go for a stroll down to Cousin Larry’s, remembering that I am willing to pay for it, just not the $250 for the now redundant format that Season one is available in (yes I know it’s going on sale for $99 - really though people, dead format). Â That’s cool but I got to change that stupid ring tone on the iPhone though!

Like three bucks? Â To buy and convert a song to ring tone. Â Fine, it’s your system I just love my phone, I don’t understand all this other crap.
Oh cool I’ll buy Black Sabbath Iron Man for a cool ring tone. Â Yay I have now bought ‘Iron Man’ now lets convert that to a ring tone.

Pffft. Â Whatever, oh look a couple of sites have ways around that so you can turn any song into a ring tone, even one you ‘gasp’ bought on CD first.
That’s more money you miss from me Apple. Â I wanted to give it to you, I’m stupid enough to want to give you cash to do what should be free anyway, but would you take my money? Â No. Â My money is too Australian for you.
Lessons for Apple iTunes Australia:
- Give us more content - especially TV shows… Â especially Star Trek
- Ring tones - really? charging for conversion? Â No, include it if I buy the song and make it available.
- Oh I guess I only had two points there.
Oh and internet providers - learn from iinet - downloads from iTunes should not count towards your download limit, Apple you should broker that with all the major internet providers in Australia, it makes good business sense and… oh whatever, it’s your business, unless you want to give me a job?

Something occurred to me this afternoon when looking at a movie poster. The next domain extension they should release is dot movie.  Especially since Hollywood is so hell bent on turning every book and comic into a film.
Say for example you have a character named Hellboy. This character is well known as a comic book character and has his own website with a domain and all. Hellboy.com and then they decide to make a cool movie about him but the domain name is already gone so they settle with hellboymovie.com - well why not apart from the fact they don’t exist shouldn’t they use hellboy.movie then it would make sense.
It occurs to me that there are so many “franchise”movie.com sites it just seems sensible to start releasing these. So when they do remember that I predicted it and send me cash, lots of cash or Hellboy comics.
