QYDJ Film Festival: Night Three - We came, we saw…
August 5th, 2008

Tonight we’re moving away from the actor themed nights that we’ve had so far. Â Did you stick with Escape from LA or did you skip to the end? Â Mmmmm. Â There are some films that make their way into the social consciousness, catch phrases become a shared knowledge amongst people, true popular culture. Â For a long time to come people will know the answer to that question: Who ya gonna call?
Ghostbusters
It is no secret that I’m a huge Ghostbusters fan, so it would be wrong for me not to include both films in this festival of film. Â Ghostbusters is one of only a handful of films that I can watch no matter what mood I’m in. Â The film lifts itself above any comment about its special effects being dated, the jokes still play well today even after multiple viewings. Â Tonight’s main attraction is not about discovering something new, it’s about enjoying the company of some very fun friends.
I can’t resist as an addon to the festival: the original Ghostbusters music video:
Ghostbusters 2
I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, even bad Ghostbusters is good (except maybe for the animated series). Â This film is nowhere near perfect, the tone is off, the music too light and the editing is abysmal. Â You can tell that the story has been chopped up and when a story gets chopped up so severely it’s never a good sign. Â But the movie has its moments and it’s nice to catch up with the guys.
Ghostbusters 2 is helped a lot when you watch the both of them together, so sit back and enjoy the slime.
All the talk about Ghostbusters 3 just doesn’t go away either my favourite rumour right now is the original guys handing off the Ghostbusting duties to the Judd Apatow crew of Seth Rogen, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd, and Romany Malco. Â I know that there’s not truth to the rumour but I think it’s a cool idea. Â So why not after watching the double feature grab a coffee and discuss your thoughts about GB3 (or for that matter GB and GB2) in the comments.
