It’s been an extraordinarily long process setting up the new blog and trying to move all the old stuff in. There were a lot of times I thought to myself why not start fresh? But I think it would be a shame to loose all the old stuff and I only just got to start using my one year earlier plugin (which for some reason seems to damage my sidebar).
So anyway thanks for making the trip over from quityourdayjob.com.au I’m going to have to find a way to drag all the images from over there onto this domain name and get the redirection working seamlessly.
Still getting over the flu, had a bit of relapse over the last couple of days because I haven’t been sleeping and got a lot on at work so all the posts I had planned haven’t been done.
So please change your bookmarks and RSS feeds over to the new address and I’ll get onto regular posting again!

I’m not much of a gambler, I’d possibly like to be, the lifestyle appeals to me. I like wearing sunglasses inside and I generally understand the rules of texas hold em. I’ve watched enough late night World Poker Tour to consider myself fairly well versed.
Ironically then I only played Roulette at Crown Casino in Melbourne.
Impressively though I doubled my money!!!
In only five minutes!!!
We were on our last day and only had half an hour to get to our shuttle bus so we figured we’d kill fifteen minutes at the casino. Now my theory when it comes to roulette is not to bother with betting on specific numbers, no that’s a fool’s game!!! I stick to my 50/50 (ish) chances on red or black. Within five minutes I had doubled my initial deposit of $10 and walked away with a whopping $20!!!!
Imagine if I had bet $500,000?!?!?
That’s right a cool million people.
Impressed much?
I figured if I had a couple of hours I could have paid for the whole trip.

I have a number of eccentricities that make me the unique person I am, one of these happens to be my fondness for movie related watches and sunglasses.
At one stage I had something like fifteen pairs of glasses primarily made up of the various official Matrix glasses, T2 and movie related aviators. Unfortunately they have systematically all been lost, stolen or damaged. Apparently my thirst for these sunglasses is only matched by my ability to have them disappear.
Well a couple of weeks ago I added a pair of glasses to the now non-existent collection that will probably never be worn out and about.
The goggles that Riddick wears in Pitch Black (and the sequels, games etc).
Ugliest pair of glasses I’ve ever owned but the sickness that I have has forced me into buying some eventually and now they will probably join my command gold Star Trek tunic in the place of clothing I must own but will never ever wear for fear of being THAT guy.
Did I mention I have a Jack Bauer man bag? Actually I also have a CTU instructor shirt and mug also but was discouraged by almost everyone I know from getting the CTU field jacket and cap (foiled!).
Don’t look at me like that!! You know you all want Riddick goggles!!!!
Fine, I’m going to the bathroom to look at myself in Riddick goggles. Meanwhile why don’t you share your favourite piece of memorabilia?

Even though I’m still really crook and struggling I had to make mention of this if only to make up for my friend Peemils missed call yesterday as he more than gleefully left a message about how we might just win this one.
So when the new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd took to the stage and claimed victory, between blowing my nose and sipping gatorade I expected to see an intoxicated Peemil run up on stage and hug the new PM.
Needless to say it didn’t happen and I’ll have to wait until tomorrow when I have a clearer head and a charged up mobile to find out if security stopped him at the door and whipped on his kidneys mercilessly.
I am as you may have realised still very sick (how could you not realise, I wrote it in the first line but am too spaced out to make much sense) and I have to go back to work tomorrow. My last four days of time off completely ruined by the flu. I don’t actually know if I’ll make it through all of tomorrow as I generally get a couple of hours of standing up before having to sleep for an hour or so.
I really wanted to write about Star Trek 2 but I’m going to have to put it off a couple of more days until I can string sentences together better.
So hats off to the new Prime Minister of Australia Kevin Rudd who is a self proclaimed nerd so hopefully more science fiction will be featured in prime time television (I’m sure there are some laws he can enact for this). And spare a thought for poor Peemil who is no doubt at work today nursing a giant hangover and potentially kidney damage.
Peemil I’m thinking of you now.

So I’m back one night and my body says to itself ‘well you enjoyed your time away, now I’m going to lay down my arms and surrender to the flu that everyone around you has had.’
For the past 24 48 hours I’ve been sick as the proverbial dog and having trouble focusing long enough to put finger to keyboard.
Still sick this evening but have a number of cold and flu drugs coursing through my veins which I hope will keep me upright long enough to be able to do some of the stuff I need to (which includes building some IKEA furniture - oh the humanity).
Whilst we were away Tracey and I happened to catch a couple of episodes of Jerry Springer on the in-house pay TV. Apparently late night pay TV is almost as bad as late night free to air TV.
Now Jerry has never claimed that his show was quality but I don’t know, it seems to have gone downhill… further downhill. Granted these are older episodes (2004 or so), but they used to actually argue on there, now they strip down, try and smack each other and scream swear words which are beeped out so it is fairly unwatchable even from a low brow perspective.
I hope in the past couple of years the show has gone back to its roots of red necks trying to solve their problems or shocking the viewers although I now read that Steve has left the show.
We’re also worried about the audience and the elaborate chanting and rules (Jerry beads????) that they have - I hope that they’re briefed beforehand.
The only other thing I can’t understand is how it still gets people on. I tell you what, if anyone ever rang me and said hey would you like to be on the Springer show I’m pretty certain I’d be suspicious.
Sniffle - time to go stretch out on my newly built bed.

It is with no small amount of sadness that I can say that we are back in Brisbane after our time away (when I say no small amount I mean a huge amount! just to keep everything clear). Absence in this account most certainly does not cause one’s heart to grow fonder.
Brisbane is not our favourite place on the Earth at the current moment. I’m not going to bore you with all the reasons or shortcomings that Brisbane has, needless to say we are just not a good fit and being away in Melbourne has probably highlighted the whole thing for us.
Sure Melbourne and all cities have their down sides, Brisbane also has its positives and a lot of people just plain love it and that is all good for them.
So I think the plan to move is back on, if not in six months then maybe a year but we are definitely not going to be staying long term here in Bris Vegas.
Anyway it’s good to be back online. I’ve got three episodes of Heroes to catch up with!
Quite a few photos, lots of pop culture stuff was bought and I got to drink a James Bond Martini (shaken of course).

Yeah I didn’t bother bringing the lap top after all that, so the posts will be pretty slim for the next week - however they will be pretty thick and fast when I get back!!!
In the meantime have a look around the archive like Dan has been!

Yes that’s right guys over the next eight days or so QYDJ will be on the road, well not literally, in fact road travel will factor very little in our holiday.
We’re going to Melbourne for a week and a bit on holiday.
Now this doesn’t mean I’m abandoning you, thanks to the wonder of technology I’ll hopefully be posting from down there. That is if we can work out the internet connection in the hotel, if it proves to be expensive or doesn’t work for whatever reason I’ll continue to write and just post them all the following week.
So if you don’t hear from me that’s why.

IESB won the race and published the first pictures from the ‘now filming’ Star Trek film. I missed reading up on the Trek movie for one day and it appears that all hell has broken out!!!
Carol Marcus is confirmed in the film and is being played by Jennifer Morrison from House. No one saw that coming.
Also speaking of things that no one saw coming Winona Ryder is playing Spock’s mother!!!!!!
Then I read that some guy from Home and Away (bad Australian soap) is playing Kirk’s father but he’s younger than the actor playing Kirk (ouch my brain hurts with all the Trek stuff…glavin)!?!?!?
Now on to the pics and I’m not going to reproduce them, I will however highlight some interesting bits regarding the uniforms. For the most part they are covered in overcoats but a couple of them have let slip, plus their shoes are clearly visible giving another small hint.
The big news is Carol Marcus, though and there are a couple of photos of her and we can see she’s not wearing the same uniforms etc. There seem to be a mix of medical staff, auxiliary staff and the heavily covered up Starfleet uniforms.
There is one shot of a guy walking along and he is doing his coat up - he’s in olive and it looks a lot like the coveralls that were frequently in the original series.
Anyway go have a look for yourselves - come back, rant, speculate, rejoice!!!
