With the new Star Trek film in preproduction and the last series Enterprise having been finished for just under two years now you may be feeling a little Star Trek withdrawals. Well never fear, if it is Trek that you haven’t seen before that you crave I may have what you’re looking for.
And the good thing is you only have to turn to Turkey to get your fix (that’s the country Turkey not the animal) oh and youtube will save you the ticket to Turkey (unless you have turkeys and you dress them up as Star Trek characters in which case please send me photos!!!).
The wonderful thing about Turkish film and television is that it appears that copyright is something that doesn’t translate well. What they did back in the 70s is take the general plot (I use the term general plot loosely) of the Star Trek episode The Man Trap and redo it with no money and very poor actors. The result is something I hope the producers of the new remake movie will examine very carefully!

Ok so I just didn’t feel like making a title up for this hodge podge post. I’m sitting in the library again, sipping chilled water (5 days no coffee!!!), listening to Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill Acoustic and chatting via Messenger to Matt from Blog About Your Blog.
I remember when Jagged Little Pill came out it was the must have album for first year uni students, that and Live Throwing Copper. The acoustic version of the album is really good, her music really lends itself well to it.
Like I mentioned I’m 5 days clear of caffiene and it’s not too bad now. The only trouble is trying not to fallinto old habits, it’s easy to ask for a diet coke at the shops because it tends to be the only diet drink that they have. But I’m managing to avoid most of it, mornings are generally more difficult. The next big challenge is when I try to eliminate artificial sweetener. I’ve lightly touched on it and because I shouldn’t drink sugary drinks it makes it even more difficult.
One of the steps in the detox plan is to drop sweet stuff from my diet. I think. I have to read that a bit more because it’s a little confusing but I think it means chocolate and snacks etc but I’m going to have to replace them with something to snack on otherwise I’ll go nuts.
Oh well may leave it at that this morning - I’ll write a better more coherant post later this arvo or tonight!
Have a good one.

Well third day and that horrible headache is only in the background of my head now. I can at least move my head around without waves of pain! It actually made me feel a little better knowing that others out there have had the same symptoms (at least I’m not mad).
Do I feel better? Not really. I’m guessing it will take a couple of days before the body starts giving me some reward for no coffee LOL.
Drinking huge amounts of water too which is the first part of my detox and I’m starting to think with more clarity again. Of course that’s being offset by the coffee LOL.
Reading a couple of Daredevil collections and I have to say I’m warming to the character. He wasn’t a character I was ever interested in. Felt a little like a bad Batman copy. So I was very happily surprised when I read a Frank Miller collection and it was great.
I still don’t see what the issues people have with the movie, I didn’t mind it. Tracey won’t watch it because she really doesn’t like Ben Affleck and Jen Garner (though she has told me she will watch Alias with me and maybe Electra).
Actually Electra was one of the reasons why I started reading Daredevil because I’m doing my best to read up on the character for Pop Culture Heroinesbut there seems to be some conflicting versions of her - oh well that’s comic book characters for you!

They’re called artefacts, at least that’s what I read that they are called in an article I can no longer find.
They are the remnants that we bring with us through our childhood and into adulthood. It is suggested we do this for a reassurance that comes from the familiar. Others say that it is because the the items remind us of a happier time in our lives where things were simple.
It is most certainly now a commercially abused phenomenon. Sometimes for the good and quite often for the bad.
Over the next couple of days I’m going to check out one of these artefacts from my own childhood that has been revitalised over the past couple of years. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were huge when I was young and firmly planted themselves in growing psyche. The cartoon, the graphic novels and the first movie (the second movie not so embedded LOL “go ninja go ninja go” anyone remember that!).
The was a recent resurge in the cartoon but I can’t say the new cartoon captured the essence of the original much like the new He-Man (another artefact for me) show. But I am intrigued about the new movie that is doing so well at the box office. I’ve watched some of the start and it really got me excited about the promise of it. From what I can tell it is a kind of sequel to the first film. The graphics look great and the voices are top notch - I’m particularly happy to see Buffy herself as April.
So I’ll let you know what I think when I finally get to see the remainder but from what I’ve seen it has been handled very well.
Now Transformers on the other hand…

Well I’m into my second day of no caffeine and it wasn’t until 11:00 this morning that the headache really kicked in. To a point where I had to stop what I was doing to wait on the wave of pain.
I had no idea caffeine could do this!
Over at Tisha’s she recently posted a discussion about drugs and of course caffeine isn’t on the list. The human body shouldn’t rely on a substance like this!
Did some very quick research to confirm that it is the caffeine and not something else and found this delightful little nugget:
This headache, well known among coffee drinkers, usually lasts from one to five days
This is on some website that appears to list coffee withdrawal symptoms. I’ve been sorely tempted in the past 24 hours to have some coffee just to get my head back. But fortunately I’ve been strong enough to resist. Then maybe I can get back to my normal life!

Today was the first day of me detoxing myself and that means lots of water, no coffee and no refined sugar.
By the end of the day my head is killing me and I’m craving a cup of coffee!!!! I hate that a substance has that much control over my body!
So tonights post is going to be fairly short and sweet.

Yup, that’s it. Ella Enchanted is on television tonight. It’s sucking me in. They’re all talking in british accents, very prim and proper. Apparently Ella is cursed into obeying every command and I’ve just started in on the sequence where young Ella is told to freeze and she freezes mid air. And now she’s being told to tell her friend from Bend it Like Beckam that she doesn’t like her.
I have no idea what’s going on but Minnie Driver is talking to a book who is her boyfriend???
Ummmm wow Eric Idle is here!
Oh no she just claimed she is a master of origami but the bad guy already knows that it’s the art of paper folding and not a martial art. She just went all Matrix on thier butts. God I’m going to watch all of this now. I just bought Teen Wolf and planned on watching that but now it’s Ella Enchanted.
Disney knows how to make movies.
Sigh
Ok I’m really going to go now but I’ll leave you knowing that I’m watching elves now dancing… groan. Tracey is thinking of devorcing me again.

Oh man I tried to resist. I really did. Marvel superheroes as zombies? I couldn’t think of anything less deserving of my attention.
Well ok I’ll just have a little look, since they released it all in one volume and all. It would be rude not to at least flip through the pages.
Oh wow.
That’s sick.
That’s disturbed.
Brilliant.
I’ve always enjoyed the grand master of zombie films George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead and I think that the comic book series captured the essence of that film. I certainly felt similar feelings when reading Marvel Zombies to my first viewing of Night of the Living Dead. Not the claustrophobic terror but the idea that the whole world is over run with zombies and that life as you know it has changed to something much more primal. We as a species are no longer at the top of the food chain.
The other thing I like about the series is that it is intelligently written, they’ve gone to a lot of trouble to maintain the personalities of the characters whilst in zombie mode. The idea that Giant-Man would keep another super hero who hasn’t been infected so that he can amputate limbs to feed on is coldly scientific from a zombie point of view (after eating the zombies are more clearly minded until they become hungry again) .
Not for the weak stomached (as Bruce Banner finds out in the course of the story - giggle) but a really interesting what-if styled storyline. I have to try and pick up the prequel and the Army of Darkness crossover!

Don’t you dare tell me that you leave the tap running whilst brushing your teeth. You don’t need to. You only need it to wet your brush and then rinse it off. The delightful sound of water rushing down the plug is not required.
A running tap can lose up to 5 or 6 litres of water a minute (depending on who’s reporting it). So say 10 litres of water a day is potentially lost becuase it takes you that little effort to turn the tap on and off.
For shame.
Perhaps if you remember that there are people in the world who currently don’t have enough clean water to drink on a day to day basis. Maybe this story should remind you that water should not be taken for granted:
Many women and children in developing countries spend hours each day walking miles to collect water. This water is usually dirty and unsafe but they have no alternative.
Carrying heavy water containers is an exhausting task, which takes up valuable time and energy. It prevents women from doing vital domestic or income generating work and stops children from going to school.
Mangalita Siamajele, returns from the hole where she collects water when the river bed is dry, carrying a metal bucket filled with water on her head.
She struggles to walk as she has a bad hip. “I am so tired,” she says. “Where I have come from is very far, walking with 20 litres on my head. I am old, I have a bad hip and am always tired, carrying this bucket twice a day, I need to get home, I need to rest.”
