I’ve seen some weird stuff on the internet, stuff that I couldn’t have thought of and some stuff I wish I could un-see (I’m looking at you 2G1C). Â But every once and a while I see something that reminds of this fact, something that is just so off the wall that I find myself grinning at the pure wonder that is the internet.
Exhibit A:
Â
Well sure, Robocop on a unicorn (I went to make the u a capital… weird) of course someone has drawn this and put it on the interwebs, of course you can find a picture of Robocop on a unicorn!
Exhibit B
A whole bunch of pictures of Robocop on a unicorn!?!?!!?
Jye over at Twitter is trying to get some ground swell for a Dungeons & Dragons Australian online community and asked if I was interested at all. Â To be honest I’ve always been interested in D&D but have only ever played once or twice in high school. Â I certainly get the appeal of it all. Â
So whilst I probably won’t be getting involved in any actual games I am really interested in the art that is associated with D&D and will therefore be adding artwork as my contribution to the community:
I got the heads up over at slashfilm that Michael Bay is using Twitter and is writing some pretty funny stuff. I used to be an apologist for Mr Bay (remember I like Armageddon, Con Air and The Rock) but then Transformers which I still refuse to discuss here… (you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry) came along and ruined my childhood memories.
But Michael does have a unique appeal, here are some samples:
I want to welcome all the new people who are following my updates and remind everyone that I am better than you in every possible way.
Didn’t finish my latte, because I put it in a bullhorn and hurled it at a runner. That works better than coffee anyway.
Ok, long day. I’m going to sleep well tonight. On a mattress made of money. Literally.
Shia is crying less today.
Shia cried more today. Especially compared to yesterday.
Took a meeting about Armageddon 2: Armageddoner. It’s a Go.
I’m not much of a fan anymore of the blogging about blogging about blogging crowds that currently peddle their methods of writing better blogs about making money blogging and precious little else. Â They have a niche I guess and they certainly have lots of readers, and on and off I’ll read various articles that are of worth which there are some.
So I’m not trying to make you a better blogger by writing this, you just keeping writing what you want to write about and that will make you the best blogger you can be anyway!
Freemind is a program that I encountered ages ago and if you’ve ever had anything to do with mindmaps then I’m certain you have encountered it yourselves. Â What the software does is allows you to easily write up a mindmap on the computer.
Now hang on a second, a mindmap?
A mindmap is where you have a topic in the middle of the page and off of that topic you write ideas and words associated with that topic and then ideas branching out from those ideas etc. Â Eventually you have all of this ideas mapped off the original. Â Trust me the description does no justice to the concept and I think it is one of those things that you should just download the software, have a play around and see if it fits your way of thinking.
It fits my way of thinking and I’m beginning to use the mindmaps in my everyday planning for anything. Â Recently I’ve been using it to help me keep a sensible list of ideas that I want to write about. Â Say for example I like the topic of science fiction (no great surprise there) then underneath that topic I might write Star Trek and continue on till I have a list like:
From here I’ve already got one or two posts that I could write about Star Trek (and I’m probably going to add them to my master list now too). Â
Now I talk about using it to keep track of post ideas but really it is just a powerful little brainstorming tool for any given situation. Â I use it to work out what to draw next, answers to selection criteria and I’ve got some ideas to expand on such as recipes and shopping lists :).
It is brilliant for problem solving too, just put your problem in the middle and naturally let ideas develop around it. Â I’m sure you all already know about the program, it’s been around for a while and written about on more than one occasion but if you’ve never used it before download it (it’s free) and let me know what you think!
Zen Habits mentioned this via his Twitter feed and asked what everyone thought of it, I’d never heard of Posterous and was slightly intrigued, enough to do as it suggested and just email a message through to see what the site would do with it.
You see Posterous is a blogging platform with a slight difference, it is built primarily around emailing your posts in, photos, mp3s, text etc. Â You email the site and it will automatically set up the post for you.
Actually I think it’s the easiest registration I’ve ever had to do because all you do is email what you want your first post to be and it will automatically set up your account, post the email and send you a message advising how to access and set up a password etc.
So whilst I really don’t need another avenue to vent my thoughts etc I’m going to use it as a picture blog and post a drawing a day there. Â Most of these images will already have been posted here and I will continue to do so but this is a streamlined list of my visual ideas alone.
Anyone who wouldn’t mind a blog but doesn’t want to go through the crap to set one up and would like it to be nice and simple could really consider it.
It also appears to be a really nice community as I got a couple of welcome messages and encouragement.
I’ve been a moderator over on the Aussie Bloggers forum for a while now and one thread that always shows up in my unread box is the ‘What’s for Dinner’ thread, as I write this it is somewhere up to 28 pages.
This generated the ida for this cartoon that will be on their blog sometime over the next month:
Well it’s very cool I’m writing this post on the move, at breakfast actually. I’m using the new Wordpress app for the iphone which I am more than happy with.
I figured that for mobile blogging, then twitter was going to be it. But this app is pretty cool especially since I’m getting used to the little keyboard (though I’m still only a one finger typist - two thumbs are the equivalent to a touch typist).
The other neat feature is that I can take a photo and then semi-instantly post it on the blog, I don’t know if it shares the gps information with, I guess that’s something I’ll see when I get home.
Off to see the x files now after finishing breakfast!
Because I hate having free time I offered to do some sketches for a new blog starting out. Â This is in addition to the work I’m already doing for the other project that I already mentioned the other day but can’t talk about (it’s cool though).
This is also cool (which is kind of a pun considering the author), go over and throw a little link love the Ice Master’s way and enjoy the sketches I did (I didn’t do the header):
In case you haven’t been here before let me start off by saying welcome and also you’ve arrived just in time to see the new look.
I felt it was time for a change and I wanted to go back to light colours as opposed to the darker tones of before.
I am working on a series of banners actually and they will periodically be rotated (or be randomly selected if I can get that to work like I did on Pop Culture Heroines). Â The first is everyone’s favourite corporate marshmallow spokesperson Mr Stay Puft.
I intend on doing several different series of illustrations reflecting icons from my life. Â I suppose I’m happy to let you all know that it will be:
Mr Stay Puft
Gizmo
Falkor
I’m hoping to get a chance to do Falkor tonight but there’s a bit to it, first I draw the pencil sketch, scan it in, use a vector tool (Flash in this case) to draw it in the computer, then port it over to Fireworks.
So it’s not a quick process but I really wanted to change the template so I stayed up late working on Mr Stay Puft.
I’m not going to leave it up there for too long so you may want to get yourself a couple sooner rather than later. Â Of course I’ll be adding more and hopefully have a couple of prints available soon (maybe t-shirts, maybe).
Also I’ve updated the advertising panels on the right, there are three panels you can buy (quite cheaply too) and one of these days we’ll be adding a new poll.
I forgot to mention this last week when I found out but Quit Your Day Job made the Top 100 Australian Blog Index for the second month in a row which I’m pretty happy about as you could imagine. Â This month we’ve actually crawled our way up a couple of spots and now sit at 78 which is simply awesome.
I did want to send a little kudos Meg’s way though and not because I’m on the list (I’ve known Meg for a while, ‘virtually’ that is - through mybloglog I believe). Â Meg puts the Top 100 Australian Blog Index together each month and has come under a little criticism from some people who possibly haven’t ranked as highly as they’d like.
So thanks Meg, I think you’ve been doing a top job and those whinging others are nobjockeys!
