A hatbox post is where I take a nominated keyword and write something pop culturally related to it, generally it is the first thing that I’m reminded of when I hear the word otherwise I may do a list or something. Anyone can nominate a word and is encouraged to!
This week my hatbox post is courtesy of Arjan and his suggestion of the word ‘key’.
I’ve pretty much been a Ghostbusters fan from the day I first saw the poster advertising it, the one with Casper’s cousin in the red circle with the diagonal bar. There is one joke and I admit even to this day it may not have been an intentional one, that I felt that no one got because no one ever talked about it and it is probably fairly juvenile in thinking.
The designation or titles given to Dana and Lewis after being possessed by Zuul and Vince Clortho, the key master and the gate keeper.
Lewis is the key master, get it?
Giggle.
The KEY master.
And Dana is the gate keeper.
Fine, maybe I’m the only one with a school boy mentality, actually I was a school boy at the time this came out. I’m pretty certain I had to think on it too, it wasn’t the first thing I thought when watching the movie, it didn’t register until later when contemplating the awesomeness of Ghostbusters.
Maybe this was all obvious to everyone else?

I’m pretty sure that it was an intended blatant euphemism.

It always reminded me of that stupid song “Brand New Key” - otherwise known as “Same Old Euphemism.”

Dan - I’m glad to hear it, I always assumed of course but then secretly I figured I was cleverer than everyone else.

Ian I very rarely ever have the theme song stuck in my head, when really it should be there all the time.
