Favourite Star Trek ship
December 3rd, 2007
I’m currently running a poll that is asking which of the Star Trek ships is your favourite. The reason being is since I finished my look at Star Trek 2 I only have one more of the Trek films to write about.
After that I’m thinking of doing my top ten space ships and I only want to include one of the Star Trek ships so I’m going to let us all decide by putting the Trek place up for public vote!
So take a look at the list - if I’m missing your own favourite Trek ship leave a comment or just let us know why you like the ship you have voted for! I’ve also left it open for you to select two ships, though you have to do that before hitting the vote button otherwise you loose your second vote.
Oh yeah if for whatever reason the embedded poll doesn’t let you vote just use the sidebar one
Iron your jeans?
- No, jeans are good to go and no Wolverine wouldn't iron them (73%, 24 Votes)
- Yes , no crease, I mean a crease? Really? (27%, 9 Votes)
- Yes and a crease, it's only proper (0%, 0 Votes)
- Whatever, I only wear slacks and fear Wolverine (0%, 0 Votes)

I voted for D, thats the next generation yeah?
The reason I’m voting for that one is simply next generation was my first ever exposure to the franchise, and so will have a special place in my heart.
Plus I want a holodek

Sad, I cannot in god conscience, vote for any of these ships.
When I was 13 I had a copy of the Starfleet Technical Manual. A hardback tome that was more blueprint than anything else (I also had the Starfleet blueprints, but that’s another tale.)
In the Manual there was a listing of ships that existed but were not seen on the show. One of them was a, I believe, Destroyer Class. It was a main hull, the neck” and, instead of a belly that would house the many crew members as well as the Shuttlebay, it was a single nacelle.
One day my model of the enterprise (painted silvery blue) fell from the fishing line mounted in the ceiling. All that was salvageable was the main hull, the neck and a single nacelle. So, I made, to my knowledge, the only Starfleet Destroyer Class model. I even changed the name and the number (to what I don’t recall).
So, that is my favorite ship. The Destroyer.

and, all the typos that go with the above comment. (except for god. I do believe I have god conscience)

Dan - the D is most definitely the next gen version. It’s interesting and probably hard for us old school TOS Star Trek fans to concede that for whole sections of the fan base and casual viewer the next generation is Star Trek.
I admit I was resistant to TNG at first but have grown to really love it (not as much as TOS of course) but the Enterprise D is a whole other kettle of fish. I really really didn’t like it and it has been only in the last couple of years that I’ve started to accept it and even begin to appreciate it.

Allen - I think I know that ship actually because I’m pretty certain I have the same books kicking around somewhere. So you’re a Star Trek anarchist - can’t play within the rules and have to go out and build your own ships LOL. Now I’m going to have to track down that entry and get an image for all to revel in the glory of the Destroyer class (barring that - given the description I’m sure I could put on together on paper though I admit I’m having trouble picturing it in my mind and may need to run some sketches past you).

I think it’s just the hull, the nacelle and then that long thin piece that connected the nacelle to the body. It was a ship that was made just for battle. It was all I had left…..;)
It was also the last model I ever built. But when you are doing your list of favorite spaceships, don’t forget the Spindrift from Land of the Giants. It was gorgeous. In fact, there are so many great ships from the 60s. The Spindrift. The Jupiter 2. The Enterprise. The one from Planet of the apes. 2001. The great ship in Silent Running. I think those are the templates for every spaceship that came later. Post 70’s the art department’s imagination sort of went away.
I miss model making.

Allan - Success! Bags and bags of success. There are apparently plenty of Trek enthusiasts out there who know of you Destroyer class and one guy was even commissioned to build one:

So you are certainly not alone in your love of the Destroyer class.
Will I add it to the already long list of poll options?
No.

Oh yeah and about those other ships I think most of my list is going to be made up of 60s and 70s era ships!!!!

No, it shouldn’t be added anyway. It’s a pussy looking ship now that I see it again. But, bully for you for finding it!
re: those other ships on the list. Frabjous day, callous calley! Very happy to hear that. I knew you had some good taste down under.

My all time favorite is the 24th century klingon Bird Of Prey.

I personally think that the NX-01 Enterprise Commanded by Captain Archer is the best looking ship from any series or movie. I fill that even though the NX-01 is supposed to be the very first human built deep space exploration ship that it looks like it is the most advanced and powerfull of all of the other starships. I guess it looks that way because the show is newest of all other star trek shows and the special effects team has done such a good job with COMPUTER GRAPHICS.

After my initial knee jerk reaction to it I came to love the NX-01 and have a model of it sitting on my desk.

Personally, my number one spot goes to a Constitution Refit, its the classic constitution, but modern! Number two is Excelsor, three is Mirander, four is Intrepid, and five is Ambassador

Constitution refit is my favourite too, there’s just something classic about that design and the crossover to the pearl coloured hull.
