If you could fly

We are currently watching Heroes and I am really glad I waited to watch it on dvd after missing the first couple of episodes because I am really hooked.
Something that did occur to me whilst watching the third episode is in relation to having the ability to fly as a normal human being. Surely you would need some level of invulnerability in order not to kill or injure yourself whilst flying?
Take a look at what we have to wear when we ride a motorbike then think about the amount of crap floating around in the air that if you hit doing a certain speed would take your eye out. Imagine hitting a bird or a decent sized beetle smacking into your face?
So then I thought further about this and all the times that Superman flies someone around the world why don’t they land and spit out all the bugs and stuff. Now I’m wondering about Flash, surely bugs and sticks and stuff would smack into him all the time and when he’s going that speed why doesn’t it just pass right through him like a bullet? I mean he is still essentially mortal apart from his super speed.
That’s what I like in my televisions shows - something to think about. Oh and Star Trek references, lots of Star Trek references.

If I remember correctly when he runs the flash vibrates at a specific speed which gives him a self contained forcefield that protects him against the forces of friction. I’m guessing it protects against bugs too.
We’re watching Heroes for the first time at the moment too. It is rather good indeed.

It is rather good! We’re now mid-season or so and we’re really hooked now - we’ve also since discovered that my alt text for the image in this post is not 100% correct.
I think you’re right about the Flash and his vibration - I’m pretty certain Marky Mark sung a song about it. If I remember also he is able to vibrate through things. So that’s him sorted but i worry about poor Jimmy when Superman carries him around:
“Ummmm yeah thanks Superman, but now I’m blind because a rhino beetle just passed through my eyeball”
Imagine putting that down on your sick day report.

MC - It’s not something that I’d given thought to before and now I’m obsessed with the idea that you would need to wear a protective costume. Maybe I should draw my own comic about it… maybe I will.

There needs to be a touch of logic to make the whole thing more interesting LOL… sometimes.
