1.21 gigawatts or how I stopped worrying and learned to love my keyring…

I hate electricity. Awful stuff.

I mean great to run computers, provide light and to recharge my beloved iPod. Oh sure. It’s contained in those circumstances. It’s when it is out and about that it causes my woes.

I’m making my return to the gym and discovered that I have no gear to make ones time at the gym slightly easier. No shoes, clothes, bag or towel… I mean it was pretty barren here when it came to gym gear.

So off to my local sports store to get me some stuff. Now welcome to my shopping nightmare. Every single rack or person (mainly Tracey) I came into contact with would give me a jolt of static electricity. Even standing still in the middle of the room I was generating enough voltage to power the shopping centre. I’m just susceptible to static electricity and when I spark it is loud and can be seen from across the room.

It’s just that time of year for me I suspect, recently at work it started to get quite bad and I sought out help online. I found a site that talked about it and one of their suggestions was to ground yourself using your keys.

Yup there I am trying to buy joggers.

Yes this makes me look like a freak as I touch my keys periodically on metal and handles etc and I hate having to do it but I hate those zaps more!Probably goes back to my childhood where I once knocked over a lamp and went to pick it up. It had knocked the casing off and left two screws exposed. Without thinking I let my thumb bridge the screws as I picked it up.

I learnt a very valuable lesson that day. Respect electricity.

It knocked me across the room and made me vomit. I can still remember the sensation today.

Horrible.

So I’m pretty touchy when it comes to static electricity.
