Is anyone out there a real Nightcrawler fan?
February 17th, 2007
I can’t say that I have a number one favourite comic book character. Often it depends on my mood and I sway from Hellboy to Iron Man to Batman to a number of characters.
At one of our local shopping centres there is a vending machine that offers a set of 8 figurines from Marvel comics that I discovered when we were moving.

Now when I first discovered the toys I was overtired, exhausted and generally miserable. So to lighten up my day I thought I’ll treat myself. The nature of the machine is that it is all random and you don’t know what you’ll get.
Looking over the selection I decided the two I really wanted were Iron Man and the Punisher. The two I really didn’t want were Mystique and Nightcrawler.
Honestly who wants Nightcrawler? Surely there’s no market for Nightcrawler? If you are picking the X-Men why not Wolverine? Or Cyclops?
So my question for all you pop culture junkies and comic book fans is there anyone out there who is an actual Nightcrawler fan? I don’t mean fan in that you don’t mind him or he’s part of the X-Men. You have to prefer Nightcrawler over all over characters. I want to hear from you!
As you can imagine from my rant here I got a Nightcrawler. On the up side I got the Punisher too. Today we went back and I got another bloody Nightcrawler and Dr Octopus.
So if you can convince me that you are a Nightcrawler fan I have a spare Nightcrawler that I’m putting on the table. What will convince me? Photo of you with your Nightcrawler comic book collection. Photo of you dressed as Nightcrawler (unpublished online previously). This will run until I’m convinced so go crazy and get creative!

Nightcrawler rocks! but I guess you had to read X-men in the 80’s to really think so. He was so swave and heroic, the Errol Flynn of the X-men.

The Hulk figure must be mine!

I’m too lazy to get the camera out, but I dig nightcrawler.
I have both the nightcrawler trade paperbacks that got put out, but there just hasn’t been enough of him in the xmen lately.
Here’s vol.1, and here’s volume 2.
swollenpickles’s last blog post..Why do some people think copying content is a good idea?

I came across this while googling “jumper movie nightcrawler”. I wanted to see who else thought the movie looked like a nightcrawler rippoff.
Since I’m here I’ll add my 2 cents about nightcrawler., since I am a fan (just not fanatical). Nightcrawler was always my favorite xmen and I still look for him in the comics and pickup his occasional solo titles. Also, I loved that he was in X2, though I feel they dropped the ball on depicting him except for the killer opening scene.
Like Becca I was first drawn to nightcrawler back in the 80s. Something about the good guy with demonic looks appealed to me back then. Its plays very well with the xmen themes of social outcasts and prejudice. In fact, I’d say he personifies those themes. Anyway, he’s also fun when he’s drawn and written well. Who wouldn’t like to teleport or be that agile and you gotta love the tail. Sure he’s a bit underpowered as superheros go, but maybe that’s part of his charm. Problem is, I don’t think they’ve really developed his character much lately in any constructive way. In recent history, they made him a priest and made his father the devil. Both rather Lame and poorly written, I’d say.
Well, that’s my 2 cents.

I agree with Marksf, Nightcrawler would probably be a much more enjoyed character if they had managed to develop him better between the comics and the movies, ect. I was surprised at how different he was in the movie.

Marksf - I find it really interesting and encouraging when people are fans of characters that aren’t your ‘A’ league group. It also great that through your insights I’ve got a better idea why someone would be a fan - I think I must have read about him being a priest etc because that’s one of the clearest images I have in my mind.
So your 2 cents is very appreciated.

The movie was probably one of my only real looks at the character so unfortunately I had pretty much only that and his somewhat brief appearances in various comics. I am very happy to see that there is a healthy fanbase around him even if I’m not in it.

Nightcrawler rocks! One of the coolest of the cool of X-men. He was one of those characters you had to appreciate. He was never going to be one of the most popular or main characters. He was one of those characters in the supporting cast created, well because the writers needed supporting characters. However, he developed a certain niche following of die-hard Nightcrawler fans. Long live the Nightcrawler.

too bad the anime version was way too different from the movie version…both are cool enough to enjoy though

i know you posted this entry a while ago and theres no chance the figures still on the table but i wanted to share my opinion with everyone
i was introduced to xmen via the movies, and was instantly drawn to kurt. ive started reading the comics over the last couple of years since and he has certainly become one of my favourite superheros. i just connect with his character and his life story so well. i was adopted when i was very little and dont know much about my family, and due to that and medical problems ive always been made to feel out of place. alot of kids when i was in primary school were very mean to me and the teachers always gave me “special” attention.
i also love him because he is such a believeable character, even through he isnt considered a “main character” like wolverine or professor xavier.
sorry to everyone else, but id take a nightcrawler over a superman or wolverine anyday.

Hi K - you are very correct the figure is no longer on the table, that’s because I’m sending it to you. It is sitting in one of my storage boxes somewhere as no one really put in a good enough case to warrant me sending it off.
I’m always really happy to hear a story about the positive effects of comics on someone’s life and so I’m awarding the Nightcrawler figure to you (I’ll email you in the next couple of days to work out the details etc.)

really? you still have the figurine? thats so kind of you. thank you! that made my day.
and i agree with your comment about positive effects of comics. alot of people generally think comics are only for kids or adults trying to be kids, when the chracters and stories can actually play a really big part in someones life, weithers its in learning to accept situations for what they are, or(in my case with nightcrawler) being able to relate to a certain character really well.

k.lee I certainly do, but it may have got mixed up with my stuff in storage so you may have to wait a month or so for it, it is earmarked for you though.
Marvel relates to people the best.

I ADORE Nightcrawler
When I say adore…I want you to get my full meaning. I have suffered from depression for many years, I mean the clinical kind you get put on drugs for. But whenever I read about Nightcrawler or see him on either of the animations it cheers me right up, I swear if he were in this world I’d tackle hug him ever chance I got… me and lord knows how many other women that adore the small, furry thing he’s got going.
For me, Nightcrawler’s just about on par with muffins… ask my friends… my worshipping of muffins is legendary.
