Comic book Thursday round-up
November 6th, 2008
Well this week was fairly lean for DC comics I didn’t pick up one, usually there are at least one or two but this week it is an all Marvel affair:

The Invincible Iron Man #7
I don’t remember if this series is supposed to be part of the normal Marvel universe or not, I had a feeling it wasn’t but this does reference Civil War so I don’t know anymore. Doesn’t really matter I suppose. This is the first one on one team up between Iron Man and Spider-Man since the Civil War days, I can’t really say I was hanging for it. I’m such a huge Iron Man fan but I’m so close to dropping all my non-Ultimates Iron Man related comics, I don’t like the art and the storyline is not to my taste, I rather him in charge of Stark Enterprises rather than ruling the world.
The last page in this though is pretty sweet.
Iron Man: The End
Now this is more like it. The story deals with Tony Stark at the end of his Iron Man career, if I look half as good as Stark at 75 then I’ll be pretty happy. This actually feels more like an Iron Man story to me than the current monthly Iron Man series. It’s actually interesting look at such a driven character having to give up his super hero mantle and pass it on to a new generation. I was surprised by who he was married to, for some reason I always see him ending up with Spider Woman…?? I dunno how I got there, probably from their ForceWorks days (that’s right I remember the good old days!!!). Cool art and I love this version of the Iron Man suit.
Marvel Zombies 3 #2
Yawn. I love Marvel Zombies but all I’ve got to work with her is Machine Man (I think that’s his name) some other robot woman and Kingpin. Whatever. The story seems stupid, the characters are supporting characters at best. The art is pretty cool though, the movie poster inspired cover is pretty cool. The only thing was that Kingpin has a novel way to keep the zombies fed and his own secret that he keeps from the other zombies.
Punisher War Journal Annual
Yay, white boots, white gloves, it’s classic Frank Castle.
Very interesting story too if you like your Punisher in high concept storylines. Most of the narrative is told from the Punisher’s hallucinogenic generated point of view, complete with My Little Ponies and smiley face stars. Seeing the Punisher shoot a cute pony in the leg to make it talk is quite the novelty. I’m really looking forward to the new Punisher series.
Ultimatum #1
The Ultimate Marvel universe is awesome, the writers can do whatever they like and no one can complain about tradition or history and because the universe stands alone they can have Magneto kill millions of people including several prominent super hero characters. Doom is particularly cool in this as he realises what is happening, I wouldn’t want to be on his bad side.
I’m really looking forward to the rest of this series!

Actually, that Spidey/Stark teamup sounds cool. I might pick that up.
Anyone shooting a My Little Pony is worthwhile in my book.
(Admit it, you’re a theme junkie, aren’t you?)

They address some of the awkwardness surrounding Civil War between them, nothing too involved but they certainly acknowledge it, I have a feeling that this will become the main Iron Man line.
War Machine does look cool over on the other run though.
OK I can top the pony bit - The Punisher takes on Ninja teddy bears and rips one of their heads off…

‘Anyone shooting a My Little Pony is worthwhile in my book.’
This sounds as a MUST read!!!
The only - about the new design is that the comment button is faaaaaaaar smaller and I had to almost put a microscope to my screen in comparison to before

I picked up the first 17 volumes of ultimate x-men off ebay a little while back. Still haven’t read them yet though.

Dude! Jealous much? Did they cost you much? After I get a job I’m going to get back into collecting all the Ultimate lines especially Spider-Man who I quite like in Ultimate land.

It was just before the ‘global financial crisis’ when the aussie dollar was almost equal to the US dollar, and I got them from the US. Shipping was the real pain in the a$$. From memory I think they cost me $130 US all up.

Nice buy there - the shipping generally is the killer.

Ultimatum looks interesting, but I think I’ll wait for the trade paperback (as this is what Marvel likes to to these days).
I’ll definitely keep my eyes open for the Punisher War Journal Annual, especially for the Ninja Teddy bears.

Probably the best idea if you can avoid the story details - those Ultimate trades aren’t to damaging on the budget.
