OMFG it’s the Punisher

November 3rd, 2008

Did this one the other day, more as a concept sketch rather than a finished piece although it works on its own level anyway.

OMFG it's the Punisher

I might take another pass at this one, doing more of a noir feel to it, maybe in just black and white watercolours.  Probably won’t be for a while though :)

I reserve judgement on the upcoming movie, I’m not entirely sure that it looks good :) But I will see it and I loved the previous one.

I don’t think this one is as strong as the others. The focus shift from the other pieces (hero focus to opponent focus) is jarring. Plus, the focus shift flattens the character a bit. He seems only exists in the fear of his victim, while the others are subtle portraits. Perhaps if the victim was shown being a bad guy, it would create a better narrative; as it is now, the victim could be a regular guy being murdered by a Punisher look alike.

You mentioned trying a ‘noir’ version and that made me think that perhaps a perspective shift might work better. Try moving the ‘camera’ down and have the pov pointed up, showing the bad guy with gun (Up To No Good) and have the Punisher lurking above, all in silhouette except for a beam of light that cuts across his chest. This would bring the focus back to the hero.

Also, I recommend using a mirror when drawing facial experssions, if you don’t already. The victim’s face feels a bit rushed and the lines and creases on the face don’t seem as considered as your other pieces. And I’m still working on ears myself.

Have you seen the upcoming new Punisher series that appears to be bringing back the white gloves and boots etc.

    I like that :)
