I really needed MC today!

September 11th, 2008

I was out and about this evening and showed up in EB games with a half off PS2 game sale and I was trying to make up my mind on a couple of games when I thought, you know this would be easier if I could just talk to MC (who is my guru of PS2 gaming, he has a mental amount of games and I respect that and acknowledge the man’s skills).

Yes I have my iPhone on but to email him and then wait for a reply all the while Tracey is sitting outside the store because the woman has god like patience but even Thor has his limits (anyone read Secret Invasion #6 today and actually find themselves digging Thor!?) and if I spent more time I think she may have summoned up her own Mjöllnir and belted me with it (realistically she could have gotten a hammer from K-Mart for $2.65 and thrown it at me, honestly the difference in the damage the mythical hammer of Thor or a $2.65 with GST hammer from K-Mart would do to my head is really not worth mentioning).

So I sighed and picked up a couple of titles including one of the Grand Theft Auto’s because I haven’t played any of them yet and I think this was the one that MC claims is awesome.  Of course they couldn’t actually find the contents of the box so I am no closer to becoming a Grand Theft Auto fan than I was yesterday.

I did pick up Max Payne #1 because Arjan suggested I play it and the movie is coming up and it was $7.50, even Tracey isn’t going to hit me with a Norse tool for that.  The other game was X-Men Legends, because… I’m a comic book geek, have we not come to that conclusion yet?

I did think that a good thing would be to have an instant messenger on my iPhone, that way I could just go online and see if anyone else was on at the same time.  Unfortunately my IM of choice is Windows Live which is very little use on my Apple iPhone…….. ok even as I type this I’ve discovered an app that allows me to log on to several IM’s and talk to people.  Cool.

OK so I’m usually really slack on IM but I’m interested in getting more into it - so if you are on Live Messenger why not add me to your friends list: lee@sarge.com.au (I rarely check that actual email address these days so don’t bother writing to that one, use the contact form).

Anyone use any other types of instant messenger?  If I sign up to others I’ll post them here.

    I’m on AIM - dghughes28

I never know what games to buy either. If you haven’t got indiana jones lego then I’m enjoying that at the moment, but it’s not as good as the star wars one.

Wow, Talk about a kid in a candy store! You gonna review them on here or will that ruin the fun? I hope you do because it’s the closest I get to console games and you haven’t minded me living through you yet.

    Have you?

Yeah I’m going to play Max straight away because I’d like to get it done before the movie comes out. I think I still have another X-Men legends game to finish before I start this one.

I use Pidgin on my desktop computer. It allows you to use open source plugins to control the different protocols

Thanks for the hook up with Pidgin - installed it and it is great! Now I just need to find something good for my iPhone

If you have web access on your Iphone, add this site to your favorites:

    http://www.gamerankings.com/

Then when you are in that situation again, just enter the name of the game into the search box, see the scores from various publications and then read the best and worst reviews (the best score will tell you all the great things about it, the worst one will just rip the game apart and tell you everything that is wrong with it.)

See, it’s sage-like advice like this that I needed at the time.

you can download GTA 1 & 2 for free from the Rockstar website
So if it was one of those you were looking for..it’s free ánd legal.

I also need to get back to MP1, never went beyond a certain level..
The bullettime in MP2 works a bit different, which makes the game easier. Where you can only jump in bullet time in MP1, you can just move around in bullet time in MP2.

As for IM’s: I’m on MSN (is that the same as windows live?) and Gmail chat.
arjanbeens at hotmail and atgmail dotcom’s

Holy shit that is awesome and very welcomed, I’m downloading as I type this.

Yeah they didn’t have Max 2 otherwise I would have picked it up cheap too, but then I see it all the time quite cheap so if I like this one I’ll get onto the second.

I have to ask… what were some of the other titles you were considering?

GTA: San Andreas - though I think you may have said a different one was your favourite afterall.

But with GTA:SA you have to remember this:

    1) Ever since I was a 10 year old boy, I had wanted a 3D open ended driving experience, and even though I drooled over and subsequently bought Driver the first day it came out, GTA:SA was the very embodiment of something I had wanted for almost 2 decades. Now I would call that an epic buildup, wouldn’t you?

    2) Your GTA experience would likely be different than my own given Australia’s lack of an 17+ rating for video games, so the product you would play would be censored compared to the version I played.
