Have a cup of coffee and a catch up

September 5th, 2008

Well it’s been a busy week in the camp this week, applied for three different jobs, I’m focusing on Government jobs because thats what I’ve done for the past fifteen months or so.  Government jobs mean bloody selection criteria, selection criteria leads to frustration, frustration leads to anger, anger leads to hate and everyone knows where hate leads to.

That image really cracks me up, no one considers the nameless Storm Trooper’s hopes and aspirations.  I was talking about selection criteria though and unfortunately that has been sucking up my time.  I have been posting over at my posterous site though generally everyday, had to suplement old stuff in with the new stuff:

I’m really happy with the Iron Man pencils and I’m going to add ink to them after I finish my hot cup of java and chatting to you.  The Robin drawing is my background for Twitter too.

Speaking of Twitter, I had a major culling of people I follow on there.  I got sick of seeing conversations that I wanted to contribute to and then being ignored so I just got rid of them.  I also noticed that there were such a huge number of ‘how to blog’ people on there that I was following and frankly there is only a certain number of ‘make movey writing good titles’ posts I can read before I wonder about these people who blog about blogging about blogging.

I am of course not infallible so if I dropped you from my list I apologise and if you send me a message I’ll add you back straight away, anyone who comments in here will get added automatically generally too.  I do also want to send a big word up to janetwheeler, kathleenjoy (permission required to view) and gamerbabe360 who always converse with me despite neither reading this blog to my knowledge.  They are good salt of the twitter earth people.

I had to set aside the speed reading book, though I have increased my speed by about 75 words per minute, job applications come first unfortunately but I’ll try and finish the activities by the end of the weekend.

I have been playing World in Conflict though whenever I get the chance, picked the game up for $8 at K-Mart!!!  It is brilliant, fun and challenging, if you like RTS then I highly recommend it!

Still reading Saga of the Seven Suns book one - it is really really good.  So much detail and so many characters.  No I will not be going over to fantasy books though, it’s as close as I get (which isn’t that close!).  Trying to track down a copy of City of Ember but Australia doesn’t seem to stock it so it is off to the import shops.

Started watching the new 90210 series, I can easily get hooked on this, I’ll write about it when I finish the two part opening episode, found myself grinning though when the ‘revamped’ 90210 theme played over the credits.

Upgraded Wordpress to the latest version, had to go through and remove all the weird generated characters.

Also have officially made Chrome my default browser.

Well that’s about it for me, finished the coffee, I hate instant coffee but it went down alright, how was yours?

Yeah I saw your Twitter post (in twitter of all places LOL) and meant to go read it. Will do so in a second, delaying the inking of my Iron Man sketch by minutes :)

LOL it’s not a criticism, there are a few people out there who don’t read this blog ;)
I just meant that you guys didn’t know me more than my Twitter feed (I don’t think) and it’s people like you that help make Twitter good because you do interact.

Maybe following someone on Twitter is the ultimate outing of yourself as a reader of their blog (if they have one)? I read a ton of blogs but don’t comment.

p.s. I’ve converted the new 90210 episodes to watch this weekend at home, we’ll have to chat about our impressions!

What I’ve seen so far is not too shabby, this could replace The OC in my heart.

    We will compare notes indeed.

I love that stormtrooper image. Gold!

Apologies if you’ve attempted to twitter me and I haven’t replied. To be honest I haven’t figured twitter out yet, and I wasn’t even sure that there was a reply function?

Oh no some people don’t work like that on Twitter, some people just make announcements and I’m cool with that. From what I’ve read of your twitter posts that appears to be the way you’re using it - you weren’t cut from the team anyway :)

I love love love that Iron Man pencil sketch. Actually really like it as is. Will be interested to see how it turns out after. Just appeals to the way this week has felt for me.

Hope a job comes through for you.

Sometimes I’ll look at the rawness of the pencils and think it a shame to ink over them, in this case I’ve kept the pencils as is and inked over a scanned version. Then coloured a scanned version of the inks :) if that makes sense.

The inked version is now up and the colour one will probably go up tomorrow: http://leesargent.posterous.com/iron-man-in-the-rain-inked

That makes perfect sense. I do think I prefer the raw feel of the pencil sketch, just seems to convey his emotions.

There’s bound to be a job where your criteria meet their criteria :)
    Love the storm trooper.
Also some nice drawings on the posterous blog (btw somehow the font of the mailed comments from posterous get ridiculously large..)
I really like the ‘down’ iron man.

I think the posterous guys are still working on their system. There is something really nice about the simplicity of it right now, I hope that with growth it doesn’t lose that.

Send them an email telling them about the font problem (I haven’t gotten it).

That image is a cack! Love it.

You’re right about your sketch, I would have been afraid to ink it as well. Good idea to scan it first… I like the rawness of the sketch, but great job with the ink too!

I feel that way about the how to blog stuff too. I’m still subscribed to them, but quite often I mark as read without reading.

Yeah, I’ve begun culling the feedreader a little too because like you I’ve been hitting the mark as read button on some of those site more often than not.

Dude the OC is a total geek show, comic books, sci fi it is awesome and some of the best scripted drama you can get. I wish some of the traditional ‘genre’ shows would learn from them for pacing and sub plots - no shows do sub plots better than teen dramas like 90210, OC, Dawson’s, Degrassi etc

Yeah I totally saw NKOTB on one of the music video shows with a new song!?!!?

Ironically both 90210 and New Kids are products of the 90s :P

Nooooooooo okay I guess 90210 was during the 90’s but NKOTB started in the 80s. Lol. Coz they started in 1894 and I was already alive by then.

    Don’t drink coffee…. haven’t for 12 years now.

Don’t drink tea. Not since I gave up smoking…..

But I’ll have a glass of water and catch up with you ;)
I like your Robin etching the best.

Job hunting. Ugh, what a PITA. The whole process !!!

I don’t go near Twitter etc. I would never get off the computer and it would drive me nuts.

As an aside ….. Saw Taken tonight with the hubby. AWESOME !!!!! Good action. MUST SEE !!!!!

Yeah I was cautious about Taken when I saw the posters ages ago but then when I saw the trailer I must admit that I’d consider watching that.

The wonderful thing about the job hunting process, I spent ages on an application for one of the more ‘troubled’ QLD gov departments and got a letter on Friday saying how they are now reshuffling and the process may not go ahead and if it does it will probably be in eight weeks.

    Sigh

That Ironman sketch is absolutely breathtaking! Part of me wants you to leave it alone and another part is eager to see what inking it will achieve.

Selection criteria are a real pain, but if you really want the job, there’s really no way around them. Don’t get too frustrated, I know you’ll it :-)

Well I still have the original pencils, the original inks and the marker coloured version. Scanned them in at each point and worked off a copy :)
