Run to your local comic book shop and pick up Runaways
September 1st, 2008
I’m not sure what’s going on, I’m starting to settle in nicely into my thirties, early thirties, very early thirties… Why is it then that I’m getting hooked by all of these teen comic book series!?!
Teen Titans, Robin, Young Avengers, Kick Ass and now the best of them all: Marvel’s Runaways.
Well, after giving it a little thought I’m happy to say I’m not going through some third life crisis or anything and desperately want to relive my youth. Â They just seem to be written really well.
So I finally picked up Runaways. Yes I’m late to the party and all of you who were reading it when it first started, you can be jealous of me, I crammed all thirty issues of volume one and two into a couple of days (days without internet of course).
What a trip, fortunately for me I knew nothing whatsoever about Runaways despite all the positive things I heard about it. Â So every twist and turn was a complete surprise to me, every betrayal, death, romance etc all a complete surprise and I will not be giving any of it away here.
I just completely fell in love with the characters who are all such vivid and real kids. Â I’ve since then read that they are working on the script for a movie, I have mixed emotions about this because I don’t know if anyone could step into those roles.
The first issue of Volume 3 went on sale the other day but I highly urge you to read Volumes One and Two. Â The first one being my favourite. Â Even though I’m a huge Joss Whedon fan I can’t say his turn at writing it in Vol 2 outshines the first series (apparently the hard covers are broken into three volumes..?).

Finally yes there is a dinosaur, it’s fine, it works.

Best original superhero concept of recent years, I wish BKV would write more comics.

Yeah it is really clever, it’s so nice seeing something original coming out of the Marvel stables. Of course it does encourage one to take the chance and read anything fresh that they release.

My sister has been telling me to read them before. I thought it was just another teen comic or something. Sorry. Yeah I heard it was great. I’ll read these after Fables and Green Lantern maybe. Hehe. Oh and about Amazon… I know the shipping costs a lot but I don’t have much time going out and about the city just to buy them. I’m lazy. ^^;

OK I’m kinda interested. Can you tell me a little more about them or will that spoil it?

I’m kind of worried about spoiling it because some of the charm was in the surprises, I’m sure it’s a good read anyway but to get maximum effect best avoiding saying much more about it.
Go see cousin Larry for the first volume at least
