QYDJ: The soundtrack
August 26th, 2008

This is one of those posts that you think up the title and the general concept and then realise that you have no idea how to actually flesh out your clever idea.
The was if I were to choose music from and inspired by the blog Quit Your Day Job what would I want on that soundtrack? Â Since of course I see this site as a natural extension of myself then the soundtrack would have to be a soundtrack of me.
Knowing this I also decided to make this a volume one. Â There are just too many songs in my life for just one 12 track CD! Â And thus in the future there may be more instalments.
All my songs are old!?!
I like contemporary music, I really do, but then I liked plenty of music only to regret it later on, so when I tasked myself with narrowing the songs down I looked at the bigger picture, not simply what is moving me right now.
The song listings are as much of a mix up as this site , as I am. Â I like all kinds of music, which is probably why I’m drawn more to compilations/soundtracks than artist albums.
So why not gather the tracks far and wide and stick them on your MP3 player and step inside my head for a little bit (just remember to pick up after yourself).
- Paranoid Android - Radiohead (1997)
- Kiss - Tom Jones with the Art of Noise (1988)
- Everybody Knows - Leonard Cohen (1988)
- You Could Be Mine - Guns N’ Roses (1991)
- Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison (1988)
- Oh Yeah - Yello (1986)
- The Ship Song - Nick Cave and the Badseeds (1990)
- The Cosmic Shame - Tenacious D (1997)
- All You Need Is Love - The Beatles (1967)
- Iron Man - Black Sabbath (1971)
- Intergalactic - The Beastie Boys (1998)
- Spider-Man cartoon theme - Bob Harris (1967)
So this isn’t a meme but feel free to do it on your own site and be sure to link back!

[...] Shamelessly stolen from Lee over at Quit Your Day Job. [...]
I love Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys. Might have to dig that out and put it on the iPod.

I always get Intergalactic stuck in my head, “like a pinch to the neck from Mr Spock“.
Actually anything from the Beastie Boys could easily go on a soundtrack for me.

Hubby is sad you did not choose the Ramones version of the Spider Man theme.

He is currently ironing his shirt and grooving away to Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys. You are having a bad influence on my family.

Darn straight! Heck, I make CDs that just contain songs that make me get all worked up for mountain biking, let alone.
My favorite version of the Spider Man tv theme is the one by the Ramones.

I think my favourite is either from Richard Cheese who I believe started the whole contemporary song as a big band version thing, or the Michael Bublé version.
The song seems to fit the swing of the lyrics, if one would forgive me the pun :).

oops.
After the phrase ‘let alone’ there should have been ‘my whole life’.

Lee, you gotta get some samples of those songs up for us less fortunate souls who don’t know them all. Throw a few imeem.com links up for us!
Interesting idea, too. I may try to pull something similar together.

I’ll post something later today with samples, I’ve had a lot of trouble getting a good version of Everybody Knows online.
Doing the track listing is challenging but it is an interesting exercise

An interesting collection to say the least. Why am I not surprised that Iron Man is on that list though?

That is an interesting version, I’d never heard it before. It’s interesting too because I don’t think I’ve heard a cover where they have added lyrics either.

An excellent idea, sir - I already have my own theme music (Mr. Blue Sky by ELO) - but only in my local pub…
But a soundtrack - Bwaahahahahahahahahahaaaa!!!
The possibilities are endless…
