Getting to know Deadpool
August 23rd, 2008
Deadpool.
Isn’t that the last of the Dirty Harry films? You know the one with Liam Neeson, Jim Carrey and a Guns’N'Roses song?
That’s The Deadpool.
Ah right.
I don’t know much about the Marvel character Deadpool, I know that he’s got some of Wolverine’s mojo and he is an assassin. I read a little about him during Civil War (I think, it may have been a different series, he was pretty funny though) and I’ve played him in one of the Marvel PS2 games, I forget which one.
So when Swollenpickles suggested drawing him I had to go and really take a look at how he moved, his costume etc.
This is a quick study of the character, I really hate my natural style and am working on adapting it to something with more implied in the details (something more retro 40s)… I don’t know I’m still working on it.
Anyway here’s my ‘getting to know Deadpool’ sketch:

His knife looks a bit thin, other than that I like him. A red & black ninja guy hehe.

LOL it appears that the character is not as serious as he could be
I’m going to have to read some of his series I think as he seems like a lot of fun.

I’ve half way through the final Cable & Deadpool tpb which is called Deadpool vs. the Marvel Universe. Pretty funny stuff. He keeps a Hydra agent as his ‘pet’ but decides ‘pet’ is not PC so calls him his minion instead. If you like comics, and don’t mind if they aren’t always that serious I’d highly recommend checking out some Deadpool stuff. I have the entire Cable & Deadpool tpb series and have now gone back trying to find some of the earlier Deadpool stuff.

I think I will try and get my grubby hands on some Deadpool, it does sound worth it. Did you read The Punisher kills the Marvel Universe? I really loved that, so happy they reprinted it.
Actually I read the Punisher Marvel Knights trade paperback, really full on stuff and treated the Punisher the way the character should be. (no white boots for Frank in these ones LOL).
So yeah going to track some Deadpool down next week and get back to you…

I hadn’t heard of The Punisher kills the Marvel Universe but I’m going to be on the look out now. The only Punisher comic is the civil war tie in.

I highly recommend it because it is a really interesting depiction of the Punisher if he had to go up against all the super heroes and how he would do it.
It’s also well done thanks to the scenario which is completely believable.
