Enough already! Show me the uniforms!

August 12th, 2008

The good people at Star Trek have released the next series of Star Trek posters for the upcoming film featuring Sulu, Scotty, McCoy and Chekov:

Now I’m starting to get slightly excited about this film, there was a huge high as the original poster was released and then casting was first announced, the teaser trailer ramped it up for me and then there were the release of these posters.

June is ages away though and personally I’m ready for them to crank it up another notch, I want the full trailer which includes a shot of the new Enterprise and the uniforms.   They also have a viral site at ncc-1701.com which I personally wouldn’t mind if they actually did something already with that too.

I must admit to not looking forward to this. If the bridge crew from the TOS Enterprise is all in it, it will reek more than R3D2 and C-3PO in the ‘prequels’.

Plus, what was with the guy in the teaser trailer using a regular oxy-ace set AND 1950’s vintage goggles?

The real question is: why am I such a nitpicikng nerd?

I have to say, I’m really looking forward to this.

Battlestar Galactica proved that something could be updated for a modern audience and still work, and, disillusioned as I’ve become with Lost, I still think Abrams’s take on Star Trek will be a shot in the arm to the franchise.

The TOSser in me, of course, cries ‘Heresy!’ at such a notion - how could it be Star Trek without Shatner and Co?

The TASser, TNGer, DS9er, VOYer, and ENTrepreneur in me, however, just gang up on him and tell him to ‘Get a life!’

    Incredible, out…

Capt. I: Your use of the term ‘franchise’ got me thinking. Why a franchise at all? Why not a new idea instead? Besides, I feel that the Star Trek ‘universe’ lends itself to a weekly small-screen format.

and while the pilot and first season of BSG was some of the best sci-fi to hit the small screen, it jumped the shark for me somewhere around landing on New Caprica.

I can wait. Hell, I may not see it until it comes out on DVD. Can you tell I’m not a Treckie? :-p

Mind you though, I can totally understand why the wait is killing others with anticipation, as that’s exactly how I felt 6 months out from the Ghost Rider movie launch.

No No No! I couldn’t bear to watch it if they have new actors playing the original TOS crew. It just would NOT be right!

They could maybe get away with Sulu and Checkov, but Scotty’s really pushing it and there is no way anyone else can every play McCoy…
