What I’m reading and will hopefully be watching… eventually

July 24th, 2008

I’m having a real attention problem when it comes to reading just lately so Hellboy and the Dragon King are sitting there only three quarters read.   What I have picked up and am reading again is the Citizen Kane of comic books.

Watchmen.

The hype around the book is thankfully fully deserved and the story holds up even today.   I’m going to finish it, digest it again and may post my thoughts on this amazing book.   I got the hankering to read it again since I saw the trailer for the upcoming film which looks brilliant:

Now if only I could convince Tracey to read Watchmen.

watchmen is a very, very good book. The grandfather of the ‘edgy, gritty and dark’ super hero books.

The movie? I was really jazzed by the stills of the characters, but upon seeing the trailer, I will probably give this one a miss in the theater. I don’t feel that Snyder is a good director. Slow-mo for no reason, oddly blocked shots, characters posing instead of moving like humans, no emotion subtler than rage or despair, tons of virtual sets and a slavish desire to make each shot look exactly like the comic.

    No thanks.

There’s probably a reason that Moore (prima donna that he is) doesn’t want anything to do with this film.

Like I read elsewhere, I’m concerned that they used a track from the batman and robin soundtrack in the trailer! Otherwise it looks might nice!

…Never heard of it before reading about it in today’s free newspaper..just made a ‘books I need to read’ list and added this one. Of course the movie went on the ‘movies I need to watch’ list.
But I just bought the 1st & 2nd season of Oz so I’m gonna re-watch those first (16 hours of HBO greatness)

Arkonby, I saw some screenshot/comic book comparisons and it looks like a lot of effort has gone into posing for some of those shots to match up with the comic so I wonder if that will hurt the movie, I still think it looks pretty cool, hard to compete with Dark Knight though.

Swollenpickles - as long as they don’t recycle the nipples.
