DC’s Trinity dropped from comic book Thursday

Last week I wrote a post titled Trinity: Last chance. I never got around to publishing it but the general gist was that I was giving the new DC series Trinity (which I’ve talked about in the past) one last shot at keeping me as a reader.
I was giving the issue, that at the time was still wrapped in its paper bag the chance to redeem the series, to fulfill the promise that the idea holds.
I really wanted to be convinced.
I wasn’t.
The problem with the book is that it promises to be about the DC holy trinity that is Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. Three characters whose interaction with each other should be riveting.
The reality is that the current storyline does little to nothing to actually explore their interactions, is only half a comic long with the remainder of the book devoted to some behind the scenes story featuring none of the trio.
The book has actually become a very lame version of the JLA.
It does have great covers though, but great covers do not maketh the comic.
What would be interesting is to get some of your edgier or fresher writers to write one shots of the three heavyweights interacting. Accessible stories that focus on the characters as people who share the distinction of being the three greatest heroes (except for Gnort) in the DC universe.
I’ve got to tighten my comic book Thursday budget anyway and this is the first of the dead wood to be removed. Maybe I’ll take another look when the current storyline finishes, then again maybe I won’t.

I thought it was taking its time warming up…
I started reading it based on its link to Matt Wagner’s graphic novel, which was excellent. I’ll stick with it for a bit, see if things improve.

I don’t really know the wonder woman stories..but it sounds like trying to bring 3 completely different styles together..quite difficult.

Wonder woman has never interested me at all, nor has superman. Batman is fantastic though, but I’d probably never buy this comic

Great covers attract your attention, but you’re right (again) in that the content’s gotta be there as well. If it’s not, all that happens is you’re jaded to that title for a long while.
I’m also facing the task of culling my monthly comic titles, as I just can’t afford sending $80 - $100 a month on these wonderful gems of entertainment anymore. Ghost Rider’s definitely NOT going, but Angel: After the fall is. I aslo think The Amazing Spiderman’s also going to go. I like it but it’s coming out 3 times a month now.
Oh well, tough times call for tough desicions :-p

Cap - yeah I have the feeling that it’s taking too much time
it’s been five or six issues now (granted they are weekly which I like).
As I said I might check back, now with you to see how it’s going in several issues or so.

Arjan, I must admit I’m no expert on the Wonder Woman mythos. I’ve got a general handle on what she does etc but I’ve never been a long time reader. I digitally have all of her issues from day one so I might have a proper sit down and read them when I have an afternoon or two up my sleeve.
I would like to know more about a character that carries such iconic status.

Dan - Superman and Wonder Woman interest me in a way that I’m interested in what the hype is about, especially Superman, I imagine he is an extraordinarily hard character to write for since he is essentially unbeatable. Even death doesn’t stop him

Ian, how are the Ghost Rider books now days, I don’t read them anymore (don’t tell me awesome as I’m culling not adding). With Angel I’m going to wait for the paperback trade book collecting them like with Buffy (the hardcover is currently out and I’m not interested in that because of the $$). If you are still interested you know that you can see cousin Larry about them.
I prefer monthly or fortnightly series because weekly is a killer on the finances - $20 a month alone.

How’s GR at the moment? I’m not really sure to tell you the truth. I’m a little worried that they’re about to ruin Dan Ketch for me, but I’m itching to find out one way or the other.
Does that make sense?
