New look for Quit Your Day Job

July 6th, 2008

In case you haven’t been here before let me start off by saying welcome and also you’ve arrived just in time to see the new look.

I felt it was time for a change and I wanted to go back to light colours as opposed to the darker tones of before.

I am working on a series of banners actually and they will periodically be rotated (or be randomly selected if I can get that to work like I did on Pop Culture Heroines).   The first is everyone’s favourite corporate marshmallow spokesperson Mr Stay Puft.

I intend on doing several different series of illustrations reflecting icons from my life.   I suppose I’m happy to let you all know that it will be:

  • Mr Stay Puft
  • Gizmo
  • Falkor

I’m hoping to get a chance to do Falkor tonight but there’s a bit to it, first I draw the pencil sketch, scan it in, use a vector tool (Flash in this case) to draw it in the computer, then port it over to Fireworks.

So it’s not a quick process but I really wanted to change the template so I stayed up late working on Mr Stay Puft.

The other cool news is that I was so happy with the ‘Fearless‘ picture that I did you can now buy it as a greeting card.

Buy Fearless on a card

I’m not going to leave it up there for too long so you may want to get yourself a couple sooner rather than later.   Of course I’ll be adding more and hopefully have a couple of prints available soon (maybe t-shirts, maybe).

Also I’ve updated the advertising panels on the right, there are three panels you can buy (quite cheaply too) and one of these days we’ll be adding a new poll.

Hey, speak for yourself. My personal favourite corporate marshmallow spokesperson is the Michelin Man.

He does taste kind or rubbery though.

    Nice new look.

Thanks Kay! Gizmo may actually make the appearance before Falkor - it depends on how I feel tonight.

Hi Jess - nah I took the shortcut and altered an existing one (from Blog Oh! Blog). I simply tinkered with the CSS slightly and added the banner.

You could do wit tinkering your comment reply email plugin type thing as it doesn’t have your email in the “from” section and so makes it that slightly bit more bother to reply to you

Especially if you are like me and don’t use your address book on your email client

Mr Dan, your whining has reached my ears and I’ve updated the settings, let me know if it made a difference?

Umm, to be honest, I liked the previous theme more.
But then, this one’s pretty cool on the eyes. The font of the comments section is a bit too small. Eagerly waiting for the other headers to roll out.

    Best,
    Sujoy

I like the new look (also liked the other one though)but I have to agree with Sujoy, I almost need a magnifying glass to read the comments ;)

And if I want all comments from a certain post mailed to me, is there a way to do that without having to comment-rss on áll comments from all posts (kinda like how..dare I say it..blogger.. does it, but then better?

I notice that the These People Rock section seems to be a little wonky on the main page now as well (because some names are getting so big that they cover other names and break the column).

I’ll see what I can do with the comment text size, I kind of like the smaller text though but I’ve got to put the avatars back in so that may force a size increase anyway.

MC - Yeah I’ve got to decrease the width on a lot of the sidebar stuff especially as IE6 can’t wrap them properly.
