It’s gunna keep me noggin warm
July 1st, 2008
I know that worrying about the warmth of my melon in Queensland with our “doesn’t fall below 20 degrees in the day” winters however at night it gets cool enough to don something on your head to keep it warm.
More often than not I have trouble with beanies, forget the issue about hat hair, but they are generally a little too big for me or sit funny. So when Tracey found me a fisherman beanie online (she is really an absolute gun at finding stuff online and a lot cheaper than in stores) I was pretty interested.
It arrived yesterday and I could not be happier for a couple of reasons:
- it’s pure wool
- it’s really really well made
- it is by an Australian designer
- it fits real good!
The beanie is a ‘fishermans beanie‘ from Hamb and I love the story behind the brand which is:
Hamb is a project by Melbourne artist Simon Obarzanek. The designs feature Obarzanek’s sausage dog with diamonds for eyes, inspired by his childhood companion Snippy the sausage dog.
When Simon was 11 Snippy was killed by a car. Simon withdrew from the world and stopped talking and laughing so his parents sent him to a therapist who encouraged him to draw Snippy to express his feelings.
The name hamb comes from the first letter of Simon’s pets names: Hoppy, Archie, Moffy, and Boort the cat. These are the pets Simon had after Snippy was tragically killed.
There are a whole bunch of other cool items on the site and some beautiful illustrations that are simple and have that childlike quality about them.
I’m not sure if they ship overseas but go and have a look anyway - http://hamb.com.au/

Arjan I wonder if it is going to be a seasonal thing here at QYDJ you know it’s winter when Tracey takes a photo of Lee in a knitted item
I will talk to her about providing a photo of the beanie with me underneath it.

Widdle Shamrock - Tracey doesn’t find the time to knit currently so I’ve had to resort to retail. Of course I could always learn to knit except it looks really hard.
