Obadiah Omelette recipe

June 22nd, 2008

I figure if I’m going to share a recipe with you then I suppose it has to be pop culturally themed, so I’ve gone with comic book themed recipes.

This morning we have the Obadiah Omelette, named after our good friend Obadiah Stane from the Iron Man comics.

Iron Monger says the Obadiah Stane omelette kick ass!

Frankly I can’t see how this meal has anything remotely to do with the character but omelette starts with an O and so does Iron Monger’s real name.   You see how this game is played.

Of course I could have gone with Doc Ock Omelettes but they have linseed in them and I really didn’t feel like crushing linseed last night.

So here we go, you will require:

  • 3 free range eggs, not caged hen eggs (this is very important)
  • 2 or so stalk thingies of spring onion (I don’t dig on actual quantities, you’re just going to have to go with what feels right)
  • 1/2 a cup or so of grated cheese (doesn’t matter what kind, I actually mixed tasty and shaved parmesan, you go with what you like - try and get rennet free though)
  • 1 mushroom (or more, I’m not down with all these rules about how much mushroom you have)
  • Salt and cracked pepper
  • Little bit of butter, just a bit to fry in.

So gather all this together and come back and see me.   Right?   Good.

  1. Crack the eggs into a bowl and beat them like Iron Man did Iron Monger.   Throw in that salt and pepper (to taste - maybe you should eat so much salt?).   Pour a little bit of water in and beat that through too (just a little to stretch the mixture)
  2. Heat up a non stick fry pan, I use a wok myself but then I’m limited to what I’ve got.   When it’s quite hot (as hot as Iron Monger’s jet boots get - maybe not that hot) add the butter and swish it around then pour your egg mixture in.
  3. Allow the egg mixture to cook, you’ll notice it firming up underneath, don’t wait too long and sprinkle the grated cheese, sliced mushroom and sliced spring onion over one half of the cooking egg mixture.
  4. Give it a couple of seconds (about as long as it would’ve taken you to realise that Obadiah was a baddie in the Iron Man film) and fold the half of the egg mixture with out the cheese and stuff over so it covers aforementioned cheese and stuff in a semi circle.
  5. Now things get tricky and I can’t help you with this, you need to flip the semi circle of eggy and cheesy goodness to make sure it is all cooked.   I’m not going to lie to you.   It will crumple up into a mess.   Fry that sucka anyway and once you’re satisfied that the egg mixture is now completely cooked serve it up on a plate.
  6. If you are rich like Obadiah Stane you may consider popping a sprig of parsley on top for garnish.

I take no responsibility for the satisfaction of this meal, it is a simple meal, great if you just want something plain.   It shouldn’t take you too long either.

Let me know if you try it and enjoy it.   If you try it and don’t like it then don’t tell me, like I need that drama.

What you should do too is stumble or digg or facebook or twit or google or whatever it is you social tagging crowd get up to and spread the word, if you do I’ll get some more vegetarian super hero themed meals together for you!

Widdle Shamrock - make large scones, never been able to, for years I looked on envious of anyone who can cook those large bakery style scones at home.

    My nemesis.

Lee dont let them give you any crap on this cooking thing… after all one has to do a lot more cooking after you have “Quit Your Day Job” and this seems like the perfect “I don’t feel like cooking” meal. Thanks
