Velour pants, really?

June 11th, 2008

Tracey and I were in a leading department store the other day and whilst my wonderful wife was off ordering coffee from the coffee franchise island I was left sitting facing a sleigh bed that was on display.

Brown velour pants not for the department storeI could hear a couple outside of my line of vision walking up and talking.   The woman was commenting on how much she liked the sleigh bed.   Her companion/boyfriend/husband snorted in contempt and demanded to know why.   She meekly offered that she didn’t know why.

It was at this point that they came into my field of vision and it was then that I discovered something unpleasant.   The dude was wearing velour pants.

Velour pants?

Like the kind that George from Seinfeld wore when his girlfriend said she didn’t care what he wore and he was testing the theory out.

I mean come on, forget why your lady friend likes a certain style of bed buddy, why would you go out wearing those pants!?

Honestly I think she can take the higher morale ground here.

We had a guy who worked retail downtown. When you went in his store he was a typical middle age guy. Glasses, gray hair and a sporty tweed jacket and tie. No issues there… until the guy would come out from behind the counter.

On the bottom he’d wear a brilliant red skirt, panty hose and 2 inch high leather heels. You’d see him walking around downtown at lunchtime like this all the time, though I haven’t seen him lately. maybe he moved to San Francisco or something.

Middle age guy in a skirt and heels. Really? Really.

    Nice blog you have here!

Reviewer, velour is the often cheaper knitted version of velvet and generally looks exactly the same (velour is stretchy too). So the pants looked essentially the same as the velvet ones that George wore in Seinfeld - different shade of colour actually but looked like a similiar style.

Ironically enough on the show I would be surprised if the clothes he was actually wearing were in fact velvet (despite being referred to as velvet) as velour is often substituted in theatre because it looks the same but costs lots less.

LOL and now I need to go and wash this knowledge out of my head…

datter - you see I doubt he would question his umm errr girlfriend’s (?) taste in beds for that exact reason.

That’s mad though, I can’t imagine anyone doing that in downtown Brisbane, don’t get me wrong either, more power to him too. Not my cup of tea though and I honestly would have to question his authority on whatever he was selling unless of course it was red skirts and large heels.

    Skirt and heels? Dude?

Who knows why large well crafted furniture may appeal to use, but there is no soul appeal at all in velour pants

How do you know that much about velvet and velour ……… or is that another question that shouldn’t be asked? :P lol

Why do you assume he’s wearing them because he likes them? I think his wife likes them - she obviously has Elf fetishes… Sleigh bed? Velour (elf) pants? There’s a theme there. ;)

Christie that’s an interesting take on that, I never gave it that line of thought, maybe he was surly because he hates velour!
