Surreal moment whilst watching Cloverfield

Cloverfield

I finally got about to watching Cloverfield and I know this will horrify Arjan but I actually really enjoyed it.

Like a Blair Witch Project with a much better budget.

Something that was a little freaky though was that they mentioned the date that the event was actually happening on and it was actually the date we were watching it!?   It was just a little weird coincidence and we weren’t even going to watch it, we just happened to be up late and I thought why not watch it since there was nothing on telly except some skin care commercial.

So when the guy mentioned the date I didn’t even notice, Tracey sat up in bed and said “that’s weird, that’s today’s date”.

Cool.

What did you all think of Cloverfield?

Oh and did you see the object (I’m assuming it’s the monster) land in the ocean in the last scene?

well..I liked the movie itself (like you said..Blairwitch with more money)..but I hated the ending..especially the horrendous lack of a real ending. And that’s I guess the thing that still sticks.

There’s going to be a cloverfield 2 if I’ve heard right..

last point…in Blairwitch it didn’t bother me that something is still lurking in the woods…

I don’t have an opinion on Cloverfield yet as I haven’t seen it. It’s on the list now.

    Seen it.

    Didn’t like it.

    I like happy endings… lol.

Seriously, it was all good, until the end where I just felt it ended all abruptly, there was a bit that was really predictable for me. Won’t say as I don’t want to spoil it for those who have not seen it.

Yes, I would watch it again, but feel a bit meh about the ending.

Arjan - I don’t mind the ending as it is a reasonable conclusion to the people’s story rather than the monster.

Like you say though they are probably making a sequel so they may focus on the monster itself in the next film. Which I wouldn’t be against.

Ian - I’m glad I saw it on DVD rather than the big screen actually, I’m sure it was very impressive on the big screen but the camera shaking would’ve made me ill.

Bettina - if you were going to see one I recommend Cloverfield over Blair Witch.

LOL @ Widdle Shamrock - certainly going to be disappointed if you only like happy endings! I guess in fairness to the film makers it would end abruptly like that, but I know what you and Arjan are saying.

There is an alternative ending apparently so maybe that one fairs better?

I think I’ll pass. I don’t go much on anything remotely scary these days.

Bettina - if it helps I didn’t find Cloverfield scary as such but it can be unnerving - probably best to wait for Sex and the City ;)

Loved the movie. Got really freaked out in the night vision. And the climax , though wasnt satisfying, it was pretty much real. Didn’t see the monster go back to the river.

Loved the movie. Every bit of it. And was shit scared during the night vision scene in the tunnel.

Wasnt completely satisfied by the climax, but then, it was real enough. Missed out on the monster going bk to the river, so perhaps Cloverfield 2 wud b back.

    SPOILER WARNING!!

Sujoy - the monster is killed in the end by the nuclear blast - the producers said as much. The scene right at the end is the footage of them from the date that was being taped over from the month earlier - it shows in the background something falling into the ocean from the sky - it is so tiny unless you are really looking for it you’d miss it.
