More Iron Man sketchings
May 22nd, 2008

I was doing some more experimental sketching with Iron Man (old school Iron Man) and couldn’t resist adding a bit of colour to the drawing above as I liked how it came out and it was rewarding that it was only a five minute quick sketch using that giant pencil (that I love!).
I started off really focusing on the arm and hand because that’s going to be the main focus of the piece and I kind of like this arm though it needs some more refining. Maybe another angle as it does look like he’s holding it awkwardly.

After throwing the arm down on paper I thought I’d play around with 60s Iron Man (think early Avengers). The first I really only like the eyes and I’ve slightly altered the image on the computer just to bring it into line dimensionally. But as I said I only like the eyes in this one.

This is of course the bare sketch with no photoshop colour.

I can’t wait to move so I can unpack all my paints and do a huge canvas painting of early Iron Man.

I did ‘fly from one spot to another’ today in a figurative way of speaking.
- Coloured Ironman: do you color it on the pc or on the sketch itself? Good job

These are great!
You going to sell these and make millions?

Arjan - coloured Iron Man using photoshop - just because I prefer how that feels - it was a quick job done with the mouse rather than my pen and tablet. But I like the idea of it being quite rough.

Ian - unfortunately I think Marvel might have other thoughts on those millions - but that would be sweet just to produce stuff like this all day!
I might put it on a mug though.

Knowing how difficult it is to draw hands, that’s a really impressive hand/arm combo.
