Hellboy II and the right hand of doom
I’m not really sure what drew me to the character of Hellboy, probably the brilliant artwork by Mike Mignola, actually I’m sure it is. What I expect kept me coming back was the surprisingly droll humour, the real world mythology mixing within the rich tapestry of the BPRD world and of course I still can’t go past that artwork!
Now that Iron Man has come and gone, it met my expectations (and hopes) and renewed my faith in the potential of the comic book movie I’ve got some more movies to look forward to.
High amongst these films is of course Hellboy II The Golden Army.
I know some people were unmoved by the first Hellboy, but I liked it and I’m more than ready to revisit that world. I still marvel at the perfect casting of the first one, could you get a better Hellboy than Vincent himself? (some people will get that reference and I know how old you guys are!!)
Tracey got me a replica ‘Samaritan‘ gun ages and ages ago, actually it was just before we were forced to move out of our old place. So I haven’t had the time to actually enjoy it and so it’ll be twice as cool when we finally buy a place and move out.
It’s going to be like Christmas as we open up all our old stuff that we haven’t seen for a year! But for the mean time one of things that I’ll be adding to the storage manifest now that we just got it off lay-by is my very own Right Hand of Doom.
I had to at least check it in the box to make sure it was actually OK (it had been on display), of course I didn’t realise that you can actually wear the thing!!!
(in the wider shot of that photo you can also see an Iron Man figurine laying down in the background - portrait of a comic book geek much?)

hey, long time no el commento, (finally got the net at home and have been catching up on it all).
read your ironman entries with interest, i plan to go tomorrow for tight arse tuesday and am stinging for it… ive tried in vain to not watch the shorts (the onion ran a good story about that, but i feel it was misplaced to some extent, van helsing was the worst i have seen in memory for ruining the ending, if it was at all possible to ruin that POS).
i had an interesting conversation (im sure youll enjoy) at work last week about indy4 and the fact that you just cant go past nazis as villans, everyone hates them, they have a great accent and they are snappy dressers to boot. nothing could top them was the general concensus till later that night i came across something that changed everyones mind. Zombie Nazis. http://www.blackcamel.co.uk/multimedia/OutpostTrailer.html
and to tie this into your post, as i must, hellboy 2 looks cool too, perlman rocks the part and the comic art is some of my favourite stuff. (plus hellboy 1, nazis villans…)
I know some people were unmoved by the first Hellboy
Yeah, I resemble that remark.
I still marvel at the perfect casting of the first one, could you get a better Hellboy than Vincent himself?
Yeah, I’m old enough to get that reference. Every time I hear Perlman’s name I think of that character first. Which is weird, because at the time I didn’t watch it a lot, but I still knew a lot about the show. That was really popular, and if I’m remembering correctly, with good reason. Maybe I’ll go looking for that online somewhere. I wonder if it’s carried by Hulu or one of the other services like that.

Richo! Nice to see you back. Let me know what you think about Iron Man - ain’t tight arse Tuesdays great!?
Nazis are the greatest villain you can get, no one is ever upset when a Nazi has his butt kicked. Actually when they do the Captain America film he has to fight Red Skull - the ultimate Nazi baddie!
There is a film being produced called Iron Sky that proposes that the Nazis built a base on the moon and have been hiding out there building their armies and come back to Earth to invade, looks like a barrel of fun - Google Iron Sky when you get the chance!
Jeff - I think this new Hellboy will have a slightly different feel from the first so maybe this one will be more to your liking.
I was pretty young when that show was on, I don’t think I even made the connection between Terminator Linda Hamilton and Beauty and the Beast Linda Hamilton but we watched the show every week.
My Mum was a big fan of it, I don’t know how it would hold up today actually, if you find it let me know what you think.
Marita - it’s pretty cool I will admit I’m quite pleased with it. Can’t wait to actually put it on display.
That hand is so cool! I’m jelous of all the stuff you have as my wife has banned all “dust collectors” from our house. She let me take over a whole wardrobe for comic storage though so I’m happy to compromise.
On your Captain America reference, A film was released to video in 1990 and guess who the main bad guy was?
The film was nothing special, but I didn’t mind it. You should check it out if you want to track it down.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_America_(1991_film).
Ian - I’d seen that Cap movie (I’m pretty certain Nanango video store had a copy!!) but for some reason thought there were two which I’m pretty certain there isn’t. The film was really awkward if I remember correctly.
Did you see the Hasselhoff Nick Fury film?
I’m at a point with the dust collectors that I have to stop, to save money and because I simply won’t have the room.
OMG!!!! Lee that is the coolest picture ever! Remind me to stay on your good side
