Iron Man equals best comic book movie ever

Forget that I’m a huge Iron Man fan, forget that I’ve been waiting for this film for almost fifteen years, forget that it was with every fibre of my being that I wanted this film to be good.

Forget all of that and know one truth.

Iron Man is awesome.

That is the simple truth.

Iron Man PosterThank you Robert Downey Jr for being Tony Stark, he is fantastic, he captures the essence of the 45 years worth of Stark.  The hints at alcoholism, the arrogance, the noble side, it’s all there in his wonderful performance.

The amazing Iron Man references that are there only for the fans and add to the rich tapestry the director Jon Favreau has woven were greatly appreciated.  Oh yeah they use the Iron Man theme from the 60s in a very cool way, look out for it!

The effects look fantastic and the suit that we’ve all already seen looks magestic and awesome on the big screen.  But the best part is that it isn’t about the special effects or the cool armour, it’s about Tony Stark the man and the changes that he goes through.  There’s an actual storyline and it is adapted from the comic book storylines really well.

I’m trying desperately not to give anything away, it’s the best comic book movie that I’ve seen and the worst part is I have to wait a couple of years for the sequel.  Other neat points without giving any spoilers is that there is a nod to War Machine and the armour gets scratched like it would in reality which is a very nice touch.

Actually the whole way that we see Stark develop the armour adds an element of plausibility that actually makes an origin film enjoyable for a change.

Phew, sorry this post isn’t more coherent, still trying to order my thoughts from the whole thing.

**Update: the Reviewer sums up my thoughts rather nicely, damn him stealing my thoughts and writing them out coherantly.

  1. I’m so glad you enjoyed it so much!!

You could just about consider the quality of the movie and it living up to your hope for it a birthday present couldn’t you? lol

    Bettina’s last blog post..Lost?

  2. It was a more than pleasant coincidence, now I have to wait for it to come out on DVD :)

It was so nice not to get let down by a movie for a change!!!

  3. I’m so glad it lived up to your expectations. I know how satisfying it is - as a big fan - when occasionally Hollywood gets it right (for me, that was Spider-Man 2).

Seeing Iron Man next week myself - can’t wait!

    Rol’s last blog post..Incredible

  4. YAY, will pencil it in.

We watched Cloverfield last night, think you commented on it somewhere. Weird movie. It ended and I was ‘is that it?’ It seemed to finish mid sentance.

Widdle Shamrock’s last blog post..Hot Hunk Thursday

  5. Rol - I think for next week’s top five I might put top five disappointments - shouldn’t be too hard to figure out!!!

But yeah it is always nice when they hit the mark spot on and I agree with Spider-Man 2.

Remember to stay after the credits when you go see Iron Man!!!

  6. Widdle Shamrock - I still have yet to watch Cloverfield, it’s ironic but I didn’t see Blair Witch until it was on TV (I think I’m correct in drawing comparisons).

Pencil it in, lock it down, nail it to the wall, oh and stay through the credits.

  7. There was a lot of cool in that flick. When he took out the hostage taking terrorists in the village I almost jumped out of my seat. That was absolutely perfect. Not quite as much played for laughs, but it reminded me of Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indy shoots the swordsman.

Jeffs last blog post..Review: Iron Man

  8. Jeff - that is a popular scene that one - I like the one where the tank knocks him out of the sky and he emerges from the crater all scratched up and blows it up. Just awesome.
