Give Snake Plisken a good economical home

Cover of Escape from New YorkIsn’t it funny how you grow associations with things that technically you don’t have any real ownership over. You see it particularly with fan groups like for Star Trek or Star Wars, fans who feel a protective ownership about their beloved franchise.

So I suppose it shouldn’t be any great surprise when I see a movie for sale really cheap that it feels like it’s almost an outrage.

Take a film I really love: Escape from New York is a masterpiece. Someone the other day questioned its quality and it felt like they were calling my child ugly. I quickly leapt to its defence and offered up its virtues. Honestly it doesn’t matter what someone else may think even if they are wrong ;)

To add insult to injury though is that the DVD for Escape for New York is currently on sale as eight dollars something. Excuse me? That film is worth so much more! Transformers should not be running at twenty four dollars when Escape from New York is so cheap! Maybe I wouldn’t be so annoyed had I not already bought a copy (at a respectful twelve dollars at least) and not able to take advantage of such a dirt cheap price.

In our house we have a rule that we don’t pay over twenty dollars for a movie, box sets are a different story and actually Tracey’s highest value is remarkably lower than mine.

So if you don’t own Escape from New York then I highly urge you to grab a bargain priced what should have been award winning and give one a good home!

Oh I’m working on a Wonder Woman drawing tonight too, I’m leaving Iron Man in the back of my head to ripen a little more.

Great movie - it was on TV only a few nights ago but I missed most of it.

As regards paying for DVDs, it pays to shop around - I don’t mind waiting a little if it means I can save some of my hard-earned, and if the likes of HMV and Tower can drop prices to compete with the internet market, that’s fine with me.

Come to think of it, I don’t have Escape From New York - yet…

I fell a liitle ashamed. I haven’t seen Escape from New York but I have seen Escape from LA, twice.

Where did you spot this super-cheap price Lee? JB HiFi? Big W?

Cap - I like a bargain like anyone, but I dunno it seems a little sad to see such a brilliant film at a cheaper price. But awesome for us! I must admit I’ve found some gems because the price was low and I thought ahhh so what it’s only eight bucks.

Ian - I think it is either Big W or Kmart but it’s always pretty cheap and yes you should watch the original before they remake it.
