Freedom of speech violation and why I’m not fighting it
I’ve had a pretty shit (look there is simply no other way to put that) week this past week; hate mail; other stuff and yesterday I received an email threatening legal action in regards to an individual who will remain nameless as per their request.
I’m not going into any great detail but the guy is essentially pissed because this site ranks highest on a search under his name in Google and thought that if he threatens me with legal action then I’ll run off into the hills.
Honestly if the guy had actually written to me politely and explained why he would appreciate it if I removed his name from this site I would have not hesitated. But he threatened legal action and after the week I had it was the cherry on top.
I even offered a compromise that would have been beneficial to him and helped clean up his name online. But again he chose to threaten legal action. He has no legal standing for such a thing, as quite frankly I was actually quite fair and open in the final post regarding him.
But I’m tired. I’m tired and I really don’t care. I don’t care about his rubbish, I don’t need the grief and have removed his name and his “brother’s” name and if anyone does mention it from now on I will remove said names.
One of the conditions of this is that he not attempt to contact me again, this is the last I wish to even hear his name, if he does I will take it further. I doubt he’ll contact anyone who’s page doesn’t register higher than his on the Google search results but if he does it is your decision whether or not you want to argue with him about it or not.
Me I don’t think it’s worth it.

You’ve gotta be kidding me. What a tool. Mr. “we aren’t going to identify him in any way” just graduated from amusingly annoying to prick in my book. What a sad life he must lead. I hope he’s slapped his brother around a bit for his part in the stupidity that is his life.

Jeff - exactly my thoughts, too run down to argue with him despite being within my rights. Sorry I edited your comment dude - but hey I made you sound funnier and more sarcastic
Gosh, you sure do attract some interesting characters don’t you!!!! Don’t worry, I’ve had a crappy week too. We can cry in each others soup.

Lightning - *sigh* yup they certainly come out of the woodwork for me. Knowing how my week has gone I’d be a little afraid of drowning in that soup! :p
I think the only word that makes sense here is ’sad’.

Arjan - oh yeah big bag of sad.
Jeff - I just want my regulars to sounds as funny as possible - it’s a service here at Quit Your Day Job.
Actually I was just being a little touchy about the whole thing and identifying the person in question in any way. The way it is going around here lately we’re going to have start labelling them Tool A, Tool B etc
Maybe I should open a hardware store?
What I want to know is why Tool A is so worried about Google search results of his name? On top of that, shouldn’t he be more pissed at Tool B for putting him in this position in the first place?
If this keeps up, you’ll be able to open your very own QYDJ toolshed
I can’t help but find the whole thing funny though; first bad press, then spam, then more bad press, then legal threats - you could hardly script a better play!
Ironically, I bet he used Google to find all the sites to email after the flood of spam.
Thanks Lee for the insightful reply. As you can see, I have done away with my posts too, no not because I was terrorised by his threatening mails, but because I was sick and tired of mailing him long replies. I just can’t stand it anymore. Hope he doesn’t mail me again.
