Wordpress 2.5

So I couldn’t wait, everyone was concerned over the screenshots floating around for the next install of Wordpress and as soon as I found the candidate release I figured why not install and see what all the fuss is about.

So far I actually quite like the admin which is probably the most obvious change.  Of course with change there is pain and you may notice the embedded videos in a few posts have disappeared because my embedded video plugin is not compatible and the big one which I only just installed along with this theme was the popularity plugin.  I hope it isn’t too long before we see an update for that!

So if anything quirky happens over the next couple of days you’ll know why!

  1. THanks for the warning :-)

  2. Are the comments still working? If this comes up then I’ve got my answer :-)

  3. I’m still running on wordpress 2.1 and have no plans to change. Maybe when it hits 3.0. It works fine for me and I’m sure if i upgraded it would break one of my plugins and i don’t have the technical know how to work out how to fix it.

  4. I highly recommend not upgrading if you are concerned about plugins!! Because I know that a few of them will break. I didn’t see a problem with 2.3 to be honest and I’m upgrading because I’ve got an illness that requires me to have updated versions of things LOL.

That said I’m pretty bloody happy with the new system - but that’s just me and I’m not encouraging anyone to use it!

  5. I wonder if this comment will find it’s way as this is my 3rd attempt to post a comment? If it does, YAY!!!

I don’t even remember what my original comment was :-)

  6. I’m just blocking you because you are one step off spam LOL

  7. I’ll definitely hold off until the final version is released. It looks interesting, but I’m using several plugins, and don’t want to mess it all up right now.

  8. Ian I was only joking about the spam bit but funny enough the spam filter did actually tag you - probably because of the Facebook link - shouldn’t be a problem now.

  9. PJ - I’m liking it more and more as I get used to it but the plugins aspect is really annoying and if you are concerned about them you should just make a list and see when they’ve all been upgraded before changing over. Or of course if you like 2.3 stick with it, it works a treat.

  10. Hi Lee,

This reminds me that I have to get a copy of 2.5 and check my plugins (the ones I write, not the ones I use - wait I better check them too!).

I’m a bit worried about the new Admin area as apparently it will mess up the options screens for plugins. Have you noticed a problem with that?

  11. Stephen I’m sorry that I haven’t responded earlier, I haven’t had a problem with the plugins options page - it’s moved but once you find it you’ll be right :)
