Stargate Atlantis season four finale a scorcher
I just knew there was a reason that I’ve continued to watch SGA despite the over abundance of ‘filler’ episodes and stunted character growth that the show has suffered from. The reason was that I was waiting for an episode of SGA to step out from under the shadow of SG1 and give me a damn good hour of television. We also are reminded that Sheppard is an important character, in fact he’s possibly the most important of them all.
Now I love a good ‘what if’ time travel story, I like one that doesn’t just reset itself at the end which this episode only half does (it’s all good, we got to save something for season five). But this episode was everything I could hope for. I’m going to write spoilers - you need to know that right now. If you don’t want to know anything about the episode then you need to turn away.
Now.
I mean it.
You’ve been warned.

Like I said, time travel episode, Sheppard is transported to the future, 47000 years in the future Atlantis is abandoned and the planet is a wasteland. A McKay hologram shows up and gives him a very clever plan to get him back to his own time and save the universe as we know it. You see everything went a little pear shaped after Sheppard disappeared and Rodney wants him to fix it.

We are then treated to several death scenes of the major characters, some absolutely wonderful scenes that you must imagine an actor loves to perform. Carter and Ronan have glorious deaths befitting their characters and Keller and McKay’s story is genuinely heartbreaking.

So SGA has turned it round in their last episode of the season, I just hope and beg that they continue into the next season!

It really was a good episode. I loved how they fit in some other characters, too. Rodney’s sister even got a few shots.
There are some nits to be picked, of course, but that’s the way these things go. I won’t get into that here.
Except for this (and this is about the promotion, not the show): Why did they have to use the explosion at the end in a primary shot in the trailer? That TOTALLY blew the surprise at the end, for me. I hate it when they do that stuff.

That’s true Jeff, I didn’t consciously think about it at the time but I had a pretty good idea so that might have been what tipped me off. I figured they wouldn’t wrap up that storyline so swiftly anyway
I missed the season finale: Do you know when they will replay it or can it be seen online?
Thank You, Steve
I don’t know Steve I’m overseas so I have to rely on the kindness of others to see these episodes before they come out three years later here in Australia. I’d be surprised if they didn’t replay it on sci fi channel.
In Australia, Stargate Atlantis isn’t even shown on regular tv - I am sure it is on cable although I don’t have cable at the moment. I got to see quite a few episodes when I was in the US. I loved it when the hotels had the sci-fi channel. We went to the Stargate convention in Vancouver while we were there and got to see the a preview of Continuum. Looking forward to seeing that but again because we are in Australia we will be getting it sometime after the US and Canada.

Seriously… Everyone except Australia seems to get boxed sets a good 12 months before they bother releasing it in Australia/Pacific region 4.
Would be much better if they got a clue and released a region free boxed set. Thats what you get for having too many distribution companies I guess
Can’t even watch the digital downloaded versions because I think they require a special Amazon only player. Lame
SG Gifts - Sometimes Channel Seven shows it but it is a season behind and only shown quite late at night. I’m looking forward to Continuum myself.
Yeah that’s right Domanik, I hate how Australia has to wait so long for these things, they wonder why people watch downloaded copies!?!
And how glad am I that they brought Beckett back? WICKED GLAD. I just think that was a bad move taking him off the show. If I recall correctly, his health was deteriorating (of course being a clone and all…). I think that was the last we saw of him…. I wonder how they will play out his charachter now.

I bought season 1 from ebay a long time ago. When I was watching it, I had ads pop up on the bottom of the screen… here I was thinking it was genuine - meh.
It was even it its own little display box and etc so I thought and believed as the guy said it was genuine. I felt bad because I don’t like buying rip offs because rightly so I believe the stars and show should be compensated to run longer and what not.
Now that we’re a few seasons in and knowing that every other country except ours is going to get it … I’m feeling less guilty about buying a knock off…hehe
Fortunately it seems I have a friend who can decode region 1 disks into other regions, so I’m going to buy them soon. No waiting another 12 months for me!
Joanna - well get excited because he’s coming back again for the new season, four or five episodes or something I believe which is good, I just hope that they don’t kill him off again, send him back to Earth.
Dominik - I tend to buy most of these shows on DVD after they finally make it to Australia anyway so I don’t feel so guilty when I see them via ‘other means’. I make sure the show’s get their money eventually from me. Frankly I support the idea of digital downloads with ads.
A lot of the DVD players shouldn’t have too much trouble with multi regions anymore, I know our Sony plays all regions but my father in law’s LG doesn’t.
Part of my lack of guilt though does come from the way they treat us, the fans. Stargate Atlantis at midnight!?! Grrrrrr.
I have been watching SGA and have to say i think it has been great all the way. I like all the actors and that the show can be really funny at times too
cant wait for season 5
