Kosovo - greater implications

This morning I woke up and the world had a new country, my word things can change quickly!
Now it is all very well and good to be happy for the people of Kosovo but there are greater implications to be had around the world and not just for large organisations - people like you and I (well maybe not people like you - yes, I’m looking at you).
Think of it:
- Gotta buy new diary with countries listed in it
- Gotta buy a new globe
- Gotta buy a new map
- Gotta buy a new World Book
- Gotta buy a new flags of the world book
- Gotta buy new anything with Kosovo on it
Man talk about selfish, all worried about their own country’s independence and all.

You do realise that one day someone will ask me how I heard about the news and I’ll have to refer to this most serious blog post don’t you!!!!!
I don’t watch news, so yes, this is the first I’ve heard of this.

heard it on the news this weekend.
Don’t know what to think of it. Dutch soldiers were there in the 90s and it wasn’t that much of a succes to put it mildly.
The thing is ..other countries will have to acknowledge them if they want to be in the European Union. And Spain will most definately try and stop that, not because they hate Kosovo..but because they are afraid some parts of Spain might get ideas…

Well, I was never very good with flags anyway, the last time had a globe I ended up breaking it in a freak stapler accident (and then the dog chewed the middle out of it), and whenever I look at certain regions on an atlas I tend to find myself asking: “Hmmm… does that country still exist? When was this atlas made?” - so I go off to find a current reference thingy
(hoping of course that it’s a more up-to-date one than the atlas)
and end up being side-tracked by an interesting snippet about moles, or pulley systems, or the periodic table -
so I guess the whole Kosovo thing will accidentally unlock all sorts of unexpected doors in all of our intellectual lives.
(either that or we’ll buy dog-proof globes)

John - the last time I owned a globe Russia was the good ol’ USSR - I’m not sure if anyone was back in the USSR - mmmmm that was a very awkwardly inserted Beatles reference.
