Damaged memories

As promised here is another photo taken on the weekend. I think this is the first grave that I discovered that had been seriously damaged. At this stage I was yet to closely look at the other graves and didn’t realise the damage. The headstone was completely lifted off of its original setting and has landed on the ground face down. Given a little rain and the sheer weight of it the ground has started to claim the headstone:

You know that old grave headstones are often deliberately taken up and laid flat as due to subsidence as the contents of the grave…err..rots the stones become unstable and dangerous.
That may well not have been what happened here though, especially as it is face down. usually they are left face up so the memorial can still be read.

Dan - that’s interesting and something I didn’t know. This was unfortunately not the case for this poor bugger. A lot of the damaged sites people have actually gone and done what you’ve mentioned and probably for that reason - unfortunately again a lot of those were cracked and smashed.
I really don’t like thinking about the place actually because it puts me in quite the mood and I was going to post a bunch of other pics but probably won’t now.

Hi Ian, no it’s the Balmoral one although I believe that the Indooroopilly one got hit by vandals over time also.
