I’m not militant about celebrating Australia Day. I mean I’m Australian and I love that but I’m not about to walk around dragging our national flag along the ground because I want to stick one end of the flag down the back of my pants. The flag for me is something a little more sacred than that, but of course that’s just my feelings, in a country that is often saturated by Americanisms it is nice to see some national pride. Do we have to be so coarse about it though?
I did have an understated pleasant day which for us lately is a very welcome oddity. It was bloody hot though and I did have to hide in the air conditioning of the shopping centre for a couple of hours where I cleaned up with new jocks and playstation games.
When we got home I had to baby sit our bubby dog because he won’t eat his bone unless I sit there with him because he’s too worried that the other dog has something better.

It wouldn’t worry me if he were an actual puppy but he’s a big boy now and should know better.
We listened to a fair chunk of the Triple J hottest 100 for 2007 and Tracey missed the women’s tennis final.
Because it is Australia Day I’ve got to send out some link love to the Aussie Bloggers Forum and Aussie Bloggers blog! Where today they have interviewed Darren Rowse of Problogger.
I think that’s what my secret goal would be for here, to be established enough that people would like to interview me LOL.
Tonight we’ll probably watch some Torchwood or whatever else we’ve got waiting.
Happy Australia Day all.

I think the closest thing we got to ‘Australia day’ must be Queensday where everybody dresses in orange and get’s wasted..oh and there are all kinds of festivities etc.
I don’t know if I’ve ever spammed you about this, but if you are interested in ‘pro blogging’ you should check out Red Couch and the book they (scoble & israel) wrote: Naked Conversations. It’s about business blogging and it’s good

Belated Happy Australia day.
I love Torchwood. Hubby however considers it some kind of obscure torture and mutters about bad writing. Apparently he can’t overlook all sorts of plot holes and just enjoy John Barrowman being dead sexy standing around in his great coat.
Do hope you enjoy it.

Arjan - thanks for the link - yeah you are probably right it’s possibly the closest thing to compare.

Marita - we didn’t wind up watching Torchwood actually. We really love it but I think we wound up watching shoot em up.

We spent we the weekend in a 5-star Hotel on the Gold Coast, so we had a pretty good Australia Day break
I don’t have a problem with my dogs eating their bones, My problem is making sure my Blue Cattledog doesn’t loose his nose whe nhe tries to steal the bone off my Jack Russell Terrier. Nothing looses their temper like a Terrier with a bone!

OMG! The season 2 opener of Torchwood was sooo awesome! Well at least the fight between Captain Jack and Spike was awesome!
Oh and what kind of a dog is that? He’s so sweet!

Nice one Ian - air conditioning always going to be an excellent choice. It seems to be only bones for Baxter, his dinner is a whole different matter but he eats so slowly I’m pretty sure it drives memphis nuts.

Becca we haven’t had the chance to watch it yet unfortunately though I do know that Spikes in it - I wish Whedon moved forward on the Spike series.
Baxter is a Boxer cross… with something, we think maybe greyhound.

I thought this was beautiful language to express a day that is definitely rare but wonderful when it happens:
“understated pleasant day”
Loved it.
