Avatar Cine-Manga Boooo! Dan’s Review Yay!

closeA lot can happen in 1 year 8 months 2 days which is how old this post is! Enjoy the post but be sure to check out the new stuff too!!

Tokyopop's Avatar The Last Airbender Cine-Manga issue 1

I was very excited the other day to pick up a package from the post office that I knew contained Avatar the Last Airbender book one from Tokyopop.  Actually I was probably most impressed with just being able to get it from The Book Depository (that’s my affiliate link btw) in the first place as it’s out of print (as I understand it) and obviously old because it came out when the show was first on.

Having finished the show I’m now in withdrawals because the bloody series was so damn good!! So I was doubly excited for the further adventures of Aang and his friends in Manga comic book format, I collect the Zelda series and have been impressed with the licensed material coming out of Tokyopop.

Unfortunately I failed to register the concept of “cine-manga”.

That’s Manga that takes screen shots from the anime and uses it as the artwork for the book rather than hiring new illustrators etc.  I also failed to note that the books are just the episodes of the show so whilst it’s good for the nostalgia of the show it’s no good for me seeking out new stories.

Cine-Manga does not impress me in the slightest and if you encounter a book with that label I highly recommend avoiding it unless you’re unable to get the actual movie or show on its own.

Go read Dan’s review!

Now I haven’t written a review of Avatar because to be honest I don’t think I have the words to express how much I enjoyed the show (which was a lot in case you haven’t picked that up yet) but fortunately fellow Midnight Movie Clubber and Coalition of Awesomeness alumni Dan has over on his new blog, go over and give  his Avatar: The Last Airbender review a read because I heartily endorse his statements!

Avatar: The Last Airbender Rating: ★★★★★★★★★★

  1. LIke I said I finished 3 seasons in less than 2 weeks..I joined the withdrawal club. My sister just replied that she already watched all seasons 3 times and that doesn’t take into account the episodes that she watched on tv!
You should check out Arjan´s last post… A decent update! My Profile
