I read somewhere and I now forget where that a man should hate something in order to stay strong (or it might have been young, frankly I’ll take either at this stage of my life). Which is fortunate for me because I currently hate something and I’ve only seen it in the last fifteen minutes.

Now I guess it should be noted that I am a big fan of the retro Iron Man armour and I love the classic red and gold that was a standard during the 80s and 90s. I just feel that the Iron Man armour should actually be armour, a high tech metal shell that is worn by Tony Stark. I don’t want living liquid metal or metal skin, I would like armour.
Following the sold-out “Stark Disassembled” storyline, the Marvel Universe still needs its armored champion and a new mission requires a new kind of armor! But when you see just what Iron Man has planned for the Marvel Universe, your jaw will be on the floor! There’s never been a super hero like the new Iron Man!
“The inspiration for the new design came from thinking about a sleeker, leaner, tougher Iron Man,” revealed Fraction. “If technology is increasingly getting smaller and lighter it seems like the Iron Man should do the same: ergonomic and aerodynamic. We were looking for something that felt as sleek and glossy as a sports car Tony Stark would covet. I love what we’ve come up with. It feels like the next evolutionary step in the Iron Man’s design.”
Now I find all sorts of stupid in these statements although I will admit that my jaw was on the ground as I realised that instead of making Iron Man really cool they may have well given him a spandex suit with lights.
I was saying to a friend the other day that whilst I love the Iron Man movie armour I was a little worried that in the comic books they were beginning to get away from the standard design and making the suit so advanced that eventually they will have nowhere to go. I feel that I was right in some degree because they have completely changed what Iron Man is in the last ten years. That isn’t a suit of armour, that is a thin costume and I can’t even suspend my disbelief to even think that a mortal man is inside that thing.
Why not just give Stark super powers and be done with it?
At least I can save the money on buying Iron Man comics, I stopped a while back because of the woeful art and the ridiculous story lines that took the character away from who he was. I was going to start up again after Siege but I don’t really see the point.
You can read the complete release from Marvel on their site, I’m not sure who you contact to blame for the severe case of the underwhelms.

Actually, I've been really enjoying Matt Fraction's run on Iron Man, but I'm not keen on the new armour at all.
I didn't hate the 'current' storyline, I disliked Iron Man's portrayal throughout Civil War but accepted it as a required evil but then I didn't like the extremis stuff or the SHIELD stuff. I know that the art went a long way to turning me off the comics too.
I really enjoyed the new Armour Wars and I actually really like Ultimate Iron Man.
I don't hate that armor, but I don't love it. Those lights seem so ancillary to me and I hate that. It's like they're channeling old Bubblegum Crisis armor or something. Plus the mask looks more villain than hero…
Metal spandex..rofl.. I guess, next they'll make Stark compete for the Balance Beam in London 2012..
You could see all his muscles and veins.. pfft..
The costume is NOT one to hide his identity.. its an armour, all metal .. I can't believe the people who conceptualised Iron Man in the first place are putting this up..
You know I think the helmet really bugs me more than anything else, actually that's not true, the chest plate or lack of one really bugs me too.
I'm just not a fan of the look of the face plate and I can't really offer any other reasons other than taste, I prefer the old school standard helmets.
If he had a decent sized chest plate like in the movie and with the older models then I possibly wouldn't be so fed up with this design.
This armour doesn't look like a weapon, he does just look like an athlete.
In fairness the Iron Man armour has been refined and redesigned over the years but the general feel has always been there even with the radical Mark 3 armour change from the Golden Avenger Mark 2 armour.
If it were me I would have asked for more of the old designs to be filtered through and to remind them that it is a weapon and a suit of armour.
he looks like the evil spiderman dude…horrid.
Actually that may be another reason why I hated it so quickly, it's not distinctly Iron Man, that could easily be anyone.
Maybe the changes are to keep up with newer characters for this generation. ?? It's kind of like seeing Batman/Christian Bale and then looking at Adam West. Adam West was great for his time, but this generation would find it corny.
I must say, I am not overly thrilled and I am not an Iron Man fan.
I think even with the Batman costume changes there is a very clear lineage especially in the comic books there have been several versions from the 60s through to now that does reflect changing attitudes within the character.
My concern is so much with an actual change in this case it's that I think with some minor changes, especially the helmet and chest plate that this could be a good Iron Man armour, this just doesn't even vaguely look real.
I am extremely interested to reading this,
thank you for the post,
keep going on.
