Currently compiling my list - I've seen 3 of your top 5 and two will make my list. Still can't handle seeing Cameron's Smurf movie though.

I really recommend Avatar as I was cynical going in myself, I actually secretly wanted to see Cameron fail, I don't know why that is but I did - watching the film turned me around completely.

I'm looking forward to checking out the list.
  • Hmm, yet to watch Moon (I'm so annoyed at myself to have missed it at the cinema) and Zombieland [I'm amazed that you actually said Shaun of The Dead being dethroned..have to verify]..and Where The Wild Things are.

My fav 5 movies of the year: in no order

Avatar.. you know why. Unless JC makes a complete mess of the 2nd and 3rd part, I think we have a Saga in the making.

Star Trek.. again very awesome. Really, cant wait for the sequel.

    District9.. Effin prawns

Up.. the starting 10 minutes wringed me dry

    Hangover.. just knock-out writing. ..

In addition to that..Hurt Locker. A must watch!

I've heard very interesting rumours around Avatar sequels, talking about visiting other planets in the area or going underground...

Felt the exact same way during Up - it was very hard not to include it which is why I mentioned it.
  • Without a doubt the best film I saw this year was The Hangover. I don't think I have laughed so hard at a film in about a decade.

    Up was beautiful.

The Boys are Back was a wonderful Australian made film starring the excellent Clive Owen.

Star Trek was very high quality too.

I haven't yet seen Avatar but I hope to do that over the Christmas weekend.

The Hangover was good and funny, no doubt the funniest this year but upon consideration I think my list is a reflection of my taste in general, all science fiction. Which makes it hard for me to rate a comedy over a really good scifi film.
  • A good list, but I'd throw Inglourious Basterds on mine, and Watchmen.
  • Lee
Agreed on Inglourious Basterds, horrible oversight on my behalf. Not so convinced on Watchmen, it was great if you know and love the comic, which I do, but a stand alone movie it just didn't hold up.

Looked fantastic though, a great supplement to the graphic novel.
  • But Superman 4 is still your outright favourite all-time best movie ever, isn't it?
  • Lee
That's Superman IV The Quest for Peace to you mister.
