I think console companies (and I’m sure they already know this) can’t downplay the role that game titles play in deciding which game console to go with.  Back when I was youngun we only had two systems, Sega and Nintendo and it seemed that Sega had a huge foot hold here in Australia, just mention Alex Kidd here and people of a certain age bracket (except my wife) will glaze over with happy memories and then want to Rock Paper Scissors with you.

So I think that it wasn’t really much of a decision back then, of course when the Super NES came out it dominated, then finally the idea of having to decide what system to go with occurred when the first Playstation and the Nintendo 64 came out.  Even then the decision I made was between cartridge driven system and an optical disc.  I chose the cartridge system (Nintendo) which in the long run was the best choice despite missing out on some of the less family friendly games but I hadn’t considered that when buying.

Recently I picked up the Wii, for two reasons, the price which was pretty good in comparison and the games, especially the retro games that I had thought lost forever.  Reading the comments from my last post on the subject a lot of you guys did too (Did you back the wrong horse Johnny? Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 on the Wii).  Although after getting the Wii they dropped the price on the PS3 and Wii players were insulted with inferior versions of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

After a lot of consideration we are now a PS3 household.

Not that I’m abandoning the Wii or even the PS2 at this stage, my options have just been expanded and we now have a Blu-ray player so no more standard resolution DVD bitch points for me… playa.

Since getting the PS3 (all of a week) I’ve picked up a couple of games including of course:

Ever since I heard that the Ghostbusters game  was coming I knew I was going to have to update to a HD game system, eventually though I thought I could accept the cartoon version being offered on the Wii.

I’m glad I didn’t.

Me playing Ghostbusters on the PS3 the first time

I don’t want to liken my first go at the Ghostbusters game as a religious experience but it’s certainly in that ballpark.

The other reason why I got a PS3 is for its Blu-ray player, Star Trek comes out at the end of the month and frankly I want to see it in all its HD glory, any less would be disrespectful.  So having the PS3 double as a Blu-ray player just made the decision even easier!

Oh we also have a Nintendo DS in the house which Tracey is the ultimate warrior on.

At first I didn't think about it but now I see the great resemblance!!
So…next up is Tracey with the DS sitting in a corner?

  2. CultureKills says:

I am still using a SD TV, so having a Blu-Ray player would be lost on me.

LOL thanks dude but I don't draw Tracey, ever. There's no way I could do her justice.

  4. leesargent says:

We were exactly the same way when they first came out – same with the playstation or the xbox – didn't have a TV to do it justice!

So you have an HD TV but I hope you are using hdmi cable to plug the ps3 in and not the composite av cable.

Most certainly did! Made sure I got it and the remote control as part of a bundle
