When they announced that the Iron Man film was actually going ahead my little iron fanboy heart skipped a beat. Throughout the years I had heard various rumours about an Iron Man film including the one with Tom Cruise developing it for himself as Tony Stark. What that would have looked like is anyone’s guess.
No I was big Iron Man fan going way back, in fact in comic book land Iron Man took over the number one spot in my must have characters, he beat out Batman if you must know. The Iron Man books were great, especially in the 90s before Heroes Reborn and… oh sorry I just went off on a comic book tangent in a film list didn’t I? Nevermind, big fan, yadda yadda yadda.
I did want to illustrate the reasons why Iron Man was one of the most anticipated films for me in my life. I remember after seeing the above trailer turning to my wife and saying, we need to start putting money away, there are going to be LOTS of Iron Man toys. There were by the way.
So forgetting the fact that I’d been dying to see Iron Man on the big screen for nearly twenty years, is Iron Man actually a good film?
Yes.
Big giant metal yes.
See the very cool thing about Iron Man is that when they were making it they decided to make everything look like it actually worked, even though we all know that anyone in that suit would be turned to strawberry jam it looks believable on screen. Especially the scene where Stark learns to fly, he just moves right which is awesome.
The cast is a near perfect fit although it is hard to see the Dude as an evil guy (my problem not his!) and the guy playing James Rhodes he was just ok.
What they effectively did with Iron Man is completely revamp Marvel pictures completely, they took a lessor known character and introduced him to the world.
And I can’t finish without saying it, that Iron Man armour was AWESOME.

Ha! I got your #3 right!
The contest was who got the most right? Because no one is getting them all right and we're not gonne let you get out under the sending of books across the globe of course!
@arjan: I called it first, bub!
heh… see the surprise here is that this one is not #1 or 2. I figured it would be vying with BTiLC.
Yup the contest is the most right and of course depending on how many we have with the final three (yes no one got 5 and 4) I'll just have to share the Shatner love around
LOL see comment above – there will be plenty of Shatner love to go around so sheath those claws Logan
I should have probably made it easier on myself and gone for a top ten, there are several movies that could have easily gone into the top five depending on my mood at the time of laminating the list
Oh how I loved Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr never screws up a role (even when he's in a crap movie) and as you say, they got the whole “look” of the film right. I must buy this one on DVD for my collection, because I can watch it over and over.
I watched this for the second time last night, and again loved every second of it! I saw it first at the pictures, after being invited by a few mates to stop being a hermit and get out of the house! I confess I had no idea about who/what “Iron Man” was about, and jokingly asked the guys why we wanted to watch a sequel to “The Coolangatta Gold” ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087085/ ) !
Only an Australian would get the Coolangatta reference!!!
