What can I say?

I mean honestly how can you watch that trailer and not want to see THAT film?!?  It’s the ultimate John Carpenter film for me which I know many people will argue with as a lot of people consider The Thing or Halloween to be his best work.

Big Trouble in Little China posterWell not me, give me Jack Burton over ‘The Thing’ or ol’ pasty face Shatner mask any day.  Big Trouble in Little China is filled with some of the absolute best one-liners and gives us a truly hilarious hero.

Also it can’t go without saying that the guy who plays Lo Pan here really just cracks me up no end, with his “indeed!” and “shut up Mr Burton” lines, not particularly very funny on the written page but when delivered by James Hong in his old man voice it is an absolute show stopper.

I think I have probably waxed lyrical enough on this blog regarding the wire work in Big Trouble in Little China and how everyone was all “ohhhhhhh, ahhhhhh” when Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon came out, sheeesh I mean… OK back away from the keyboard… I’m calm again.

This movie is all about the fun, everyone has fun in it, the cast, the director and most importantly the audience.  It. like the others in my top five has a great soundtrack but this one includes an deliciously 80s ‘Big Trouble’ theme song.  If you haven’t heard go out and look for it!

This was an easy choice, it’s number two only because number one is such a clear cut choice for me.  Big Trouble in Little China whilst in second place is certainly no slouch in ANY regards.

Remember, it’s all in the reflexes…

(check out the final showdown in all its glory here – spoilers though!)

I watched this for the first time the other day, and I must admit I couldn't quite work out what the fuss was about.

It was entertaining enough, but I could take or leave it.

I suspect it's one of those films that you need to watch in your formative years in order to truely appreciate.

Ah, so Ghostbusters is #1, eh? Big Trouble is a worthy adversary. You're right that it has some great one liners. The bits with the ceiling hitting him on the head and then when he can't quite get into the other fight are just classic. Pure goodness.

James Hong and Victor Wong (seriously, best character name ever… Egg Shen – such a good egg) were both awesome.

    I can't believe I don't own this movie. I must re-evaluate my priorities.

    had this on #1.

I found it really entertaining but don't know if it would be in my top 5 though.
I'm quickly leaving the blog again before I read any spoilers for the latest SGU..it's still downloading here..

I think it was a total toss-up for us whether GB or BTiLC were #1.

  5. You know, I've never seen this movie. It's looks so horribly bad it's funny, so I'll give it a shot. Besides, who couldn't trust a man with a mullet like that? XD
