Spike: Who you gonna call?
[Buffy looks askance at him.]
Spike: God, that phrase is never gonna be usable again, is it?
Buffy: Doubt it.
The Killer in Me” Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Well it should generally not come as any great surprise that Ghostbusters is indeed my favourite film of all time. I’ve seen it more times than can be counted (seriously people I’ve had this thing on three times a day in the background on occasion), I can recite the lines 10 seconds prior (this is annoying, ask Tracey), I know all of the songs off of the soundtrack, I know where the Stay Puft references appear prior to his appearance, establishing him as a brand in the Ghostbuster universe, I know all the names of the equipment and I know what scene they cut out of the Australian 80s television cut for no reason I can imagine apart from running time*.

I just love this film, I grew up on this film, this film makes me want to see New York in person.

It’s a film I can talk about for hours but as I write this I can barely conjure up the sheer bloody awesomeness of this film.

God I hope they don’t screw up the third film.

I leave you with this**:

* in case anyone was wondering the scene cut out was when Spengler pokes at a guest in the shoulder during the hotel sequence.
** can you pick which line in the trailer is not used in the actual movie?

The line not used in the movie is “Who you gonna call?” which I only know because it was on 20 to 1: Great Movie One-liners or something.

  2. leesargent says:

It's true that they don't say that in Ghostbusters 1 (Venkman says it Ghostbusters 2 actually). However there's a line spoken by one of the characters in the trailer which isn't in the film.

  3. Sujoy says:

Hmm, now that I have seen your entire list, and I don't see Dark Knight feature anywhere. But, I remember you mentioning in your post on Dark Knight that it was arguably the best movie of all time. [ Dammit, I can't track back to link of the post :P ]
All in all, it is an awesome list. Although mine will be completely different. Not sure if I will be able to narrow it down to just 5 though.

  4. Sean Bennett says:

Whoops. I misread your question and didn't even watch the trailer. Having now watched, I have no idea.

  5. Arjan says:

It still is one hell of an awesome movie.

Stupid thing is, it's not the best movies that I've rewatched time and time again..but just those simple action movies that get broadcasted again and again on sunday evenings. For instance I think I've seen Bloodsport at least 10-15 times..it's not that good (if not a bit bad), but when it's on somehow I get stuck watching it till the end.

This list is my top five, I also consider the Lord of The Rings films to be technically extraordinary feats of film making, much better made than Big Trouble in Little China but it isn't in my top five because I don't have the same personal connection to it.

Take the comments in the Jurassic Park entry, a lot made reference to the special connections that they had to the film.

So I consider Dark Knight to be one of the truly best films but you know, in a list I'd probably put Batman Returns ahead of it.

For the record, the best film of all time is probably Casablanca over Citizen Kane but I'm not watching either this weekend (I watched Ghostbusters and Serenity!).

  7. leesargent says:

LOL nah I had to go back and rewrite the question so you were probably in the right in the first place!

  8. leesargent says:

I don't even want to say how many times I've watched The Princess Diaries or The Core…

  9. Jeff says:

“I'm the Chairman of the largest paranormal removal company…” or something like that.

This is indeed, one of the most rewatchable films in existence. One of the Harold Ramis classics, along with Animal House, Caddyshack, Stripes, and Groundhog Day.

  10. MC says:

That's what I think it is as well. It didn't sound familiar.

  11. MC says:

I've seen that movie so many times, it isn't even funny. I even love the fake Mentos commercial someone made using it.

  12. MC says:

Nothing wrong with the Core, despite what critics will say.

  13. MC says:

Now, are you going to do your PS2 games list… that is the question?

I love this film, too. I saw it in the theater back in the distant past and couldn't stop thinking about it for weeks.

However, the Ghostbusters as an organization is a bit creepy when you imagine that all the ghosts are actually the spirits of dead humans. Spirits that are doomed, first to walk the Earth, then, if captured by the Ghostbusters, to spend be placed into a tank with hundreds of other spirits in a sort of hell.

It was just a though, I still like the movie.

(and GB2 should never have been made, btw)
